Gas is my fav episode of Bottom, piping cold tea with the Loonies, never realised your name before, silly me.

Brian Glover was good in Kes as well.

Neil Robertson, never quite got the hang of tucking his shirt in. I'm getting a little worried for Chris now, seems to have lost that spark he had yesterday, c'mon Chris WAKE UP! ⚡

Gas is my favourite as well Series 1 and 2 were good but series 3 was terrible. By then all the jokes were stale.

I was watching Brian Glover wrestling on youtube recently and he was a great showman keeping the crowds entertained. That era looked like the heyday of British wrestling when it was a family day out.

Yeah my dad liked wrestling on ITV World of Sport in the 70s, Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick Mc Manus and that Irish ? guy with the Indian looking woman in his corner

Neil Robertsons relationship with the crucible continues, hard to ever see him winning here again?

Seems to me the seeded players are at such a disadvantage now coming into this cold compared to their opponent who's had at least 2 matches to sharpen up.

Same thing happened last year as I think 8 qualifiers won through to the second round. It's always been tough for the seeded players to get through round one, but given how small the gap is now between the top 16 and the rest of the field, I think it's unlikely we'll ever see a time when the majority of seeds get past the opening round.

I can't see this being good for the game or fans in the long run. Fans like to see an underdog but if too many big seeds keep going out in round one, interest in the tournament will surely fade. Be interesting to hear thoughts from others on this!

I think that's a load of rubbish. Last year was an unusually higher number of seeds going out. I don't think we'll see that again this year. If anything most of the seeds have the advantage because they've been able to play in the invitational events towards the end of the season whereas apart from their qualifying most qualifiers have been cold for months. For each tournament this decade the qualifying rounds have been straight before the main event and it's only last year that sticks out as having a lot of qualifiers go through and it's widely regarded as one of the poorest tournaments in recent years. I reckon will get 4-6 qualifiers in the second round.

                  2024 - 8 / 8
                  2023 - 12 / 4
                  2022 - 13 / 3
                  2021 - 14 / 2
                  2020 - 11 / 5

I don't get this idea of a poor tournament like it's disappointing when the top players are knocked out early. It's the WC it doesn't matter who is playing or how long the frames take. If I paid for a ticket to watch the snooker I would be hoping it becomes scrappy so I get my monies worth.

                    • Newspaper article says Mark Williams booked in for lens replacement on June 12th. Must have already had a thorough examination and consultation. Paper says 4 grand per eye so top of the range.

You're in a minority then - most people who go to watch live snooker want to see good break building skills and top notch safety. The majority of last year's event had neither - there were some really crap latter stage matches and I do think that's partly due to having an unusually high number of seeds going out in the first round - you don't get into the Top 16 for nothing and the event loses a bit of spark if the quality of the matches is below the standard you'd expect at a world championship - which it was last year.

That's my point. Who are we to decide if a match is 'crap'? You sound like a promotor that hopes for fast matches and the old favourites getting through to later rounds to keep the ticket sales healthy. I would be quite happy with an all Chinese final this year.

Hell of an achievement, considering how much he was shaking toward the end there.

Are you watching Joe v John atm Daffie? It's your kind of table, totally messed up! Lovely jubbly
