  • Well played Mark Allen!!

A bit of a shame it was that one sided..... Lee had been playing pretty well all week, but he didn't bring his game with him today.......

Indeed I agree a few things need to be sorted out with the venue!!

    • What a disappointment for me. I would be well aware that I would miss the first session and so, hoped for a close score like a 5-4.
Then, with no Eurosport coverage and without Internet connection, I missed the rest of it, as well.

It looks as if it's not a big deal, anyway.

Congrats, Mark Allen for your very first ranking event title!

Eurosport always has pretty shoddy coverage for ranking event finals. I didn't watch the final, as I don't really like live streams. And had only seen a bit of the tournament here or there.

As I remember, they are usually pretty good with the China Open. But I've probably jinxed it.

          • Yes it seems strange that Eurosport go to the effort of showing the earlier rounds live, but once we reach the semi finals the coverage starts to deteriorate. They obviously have more live sport to show at the weekend, although why the biathlon and cycling should take precedence I don't know. Perhaps the viewing figures are better. It's a pity they can't introduce red button feeds for the snooker coverage.

            • Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, I know snooker isn't the most popular sport. But I would've assumed some of the sports they show over it wouldn't get more viewers. How many viewers does Luge get, ffs?

I heard the other day that biathlon was huge in Germany (not joking).

                • Is that the one where they go skiing down a hill, then start shooting stuff?

                  I've seen that before.

But what a dreadful tournament. The conditions and arena were terrible, and there was no atmosphere. For a full ranking event, one would expect much higher standards.

If they return next year they need to make many significant changes.
Yes, I thought the whole thing was rather shabby really, and didn't reflect at all well on our sport. The very idea of the world champs being held in such an environment sends shudders down my spine, and I don't mean shudders of pleasure either!

I was at a wedding over the weekend, but made sure I could get back for the 2nd session on Sunday, traveling on the train watching Allen's frame score rise steadily to 9 was just the last straw for me. A disappointing end to an equally disappointing tournament. What the hell happened to Lee anyway?? Hadn't conceded more than two frames (per match) up until Sunday!

Still I suppose it was an appropriate ending for a tournament where a third of the matches ended 5-0 or 5-1.

Ah well, what can you do. Great for Allen and his fans though, well done.

Outside the UK thereĀ“s no doubt that bicycling is a greater sport and has better viewing numbers than snooker, and Paris - Nice is a quite big race as well. Unfortunately so :-(
