  • I find Trump an exciting player to watch as he will step out and be offensive
minded when the opportunity arises. When he is on his game he can be
    tough to beat.

That he can, as they all can be on their day and when he's playing an inferior or off-form opponent he will showboat and the crowd love it but his form in best of 7 PTC shootouts is much better than his form in main ranking tournaments where he almost always finds somebody to beat him, having won only 2 out of something like 60 attempts - about the same as Doug Mountjoy.

Agree about the choice of TV game though, for form and rankings it should be Selby vs Walden and for home interest and potential sparks it should be Allen vs Yupeng.

        • from my understanding this tournament has 4 possibilities for the last masters place ebdon and dale have to win davis needs to beat fu and hope the previous scenarios don't happen but beating fu will guarantee the top 16 at the cut off if none of this happens carter qualifies

16th will not breed a masters place due to the world champion being outside the top 16 precedence was set in the 2006 edition where Ian McCulloch had to be a wildcard because Murphy was champion

so 16th which can be anyone mentioned or Barry Hawkins are reliant on Ronnie not entering

          • From my understanding of Barry, he could introduce wildcards right up to the week before the first round proper is due to be played.

              • Good morning everyone.

Neil Robertson in command at the moment, looking for a rare quarter-final appearance in China. Losing the last two frames must be disappointing for Stevens, because he had great chances in both. It could have been 3-2 to him.

                • Losing the fourth frame would have hurt Stevens. Though it was a terrific long pot on the black by Robertson it has to be said..

                  • Morning, and a shocking ref in the Stevens game, not spotting the black properly and missing the touching ball, I've noticed some of the usual refs are not out there, I know people need practice but at such a big event?

                    • Well done to Robertson, he is in a very good position in his quarter now. Dale on the verge of making it 5-4 against Lu, so it could be Robertson-Dale in the quarter-finals.

Switching to Fu-Davis now, I see it's gone 3-3 even though Fu had a 59-0 lead in the last frame. There could still be a lot of snooker in that one...

In the meantime Ebdon and Maguire have already finished, with Ebdon winning 6-1. A bit of a shock there, a shame we couldn't see it.

                      • Quite scrappy stuff from Fu and Davis, I assume we won't be able to see the conclusion later...

No matter, Ding against Murphy now, a match I'm really looking forward to. I think Murphy has had the better of their rivalry over the years, but I have a feeling Ding will be up for it today.

Indeed, he had a favourable draw and a bit of help from O'Sullivan, but it's still amazing to get to a ranking quarter-final at 14.

Which one? Youngest ever ranking event winner? It's going to be under threat for two more years with this guy.

Is Lu now the youngest ever ranking event quarter-finalist?
