  • For those of you who like to copy Ronnie's set-up, (photo in post #101) note the grip forearm appears to be slightly behind the vertical (he is about 1" from the cueball but I assume at address position) and also the one everyone talks about, note his grip forefinger is not touching the cue at all at address (although it will as he backswings).

This means he is using some type of grip similar to Alex Higgins and the one Steve Davis tried out a couple of years ago with the exception that the forefinger is not hanging straight down, I suspect so it will hold the cue at the end of his backswing rather than using the second finger as Alex and Steve did. It is a very comfortable grip which encourages driving through the cueball.

I was told he uses the middle 2 fingers but it appears the baby finger is also holding the cue.

also, to me, his thumb is not curled round the butt onto the forefinger but is nearly vertical pointing at the floor.
        great photo

Great 2nd frame wasn't it, twists and turns all over the place. ROS looking pretty deadly though, Marks gonna have to be on it to beat him tonight I fear. :nevreness:

                  • Yes, the photo of Ronnie in post #110 is a comfortable 'hand on the table shot' and it certainly appears his elbow also hangs slightly into his back at address.

I agree his thumb certainly appears to hang straight down to the floor and either not touching or barely touching the tip of his forefinger (using the photo on post #101).

I don't read anything into the left-handed shot as he's also stretching quite a bit.

So more info for those players who feel that copying Ronnie is the way to go rather than developing their own style and set-up.

Very enjoyable isn't it. Just hope Mark can keep the mach alive a little longer, I want a decider, at least.
