    60 behind, 5 reds left, Morris not snookered. 2nd and 3rd misses can be called and frame awarded to Jimmy as centre ball contact was available to Morris and the scores snookers were not required after the 1st miss was called.

    A case of the players and the commentators not knowing the rules and the referee being spot on.

      in that case the ref was correct as no snookers required and a ball on in a straight line contact possible.
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

        At the time when the ref call a miss. Jimmy was 68 in front. The other guy needed snookers.

        (b) If the striker, in making a stroke, fails to first hit a ball on when there is a
        clear path in a straight line from the cue-ball to any part of any ball that is or could be on, the referee shall call FOUL AND A MISS, unless:
        (i) any player needed penalty points before, or as a result of, the
        stroke being played; (see (b) (ii))
        (ii) before or
        after the stroke, the points available on the table are
        equal to the points difference excluding the value of the re-spotted
        black
        ;
        He shouldn't have called a miss.

        EDIT: There's more.

        (c) After a miss has been called under paragraph (b) above when there was a clear path in a straight line from the cue-ball to a ball that was on or that could have been on, such that central, full-ball, contact was available (in the case of Reds, this to be taken as a full diameter of any
        Red that is not obstructed by a colour), then:
        (i) a further failure to first hit a ball on in making a stroke from the same position shall be called as a FOUL AND A MISS regardless of the difference in scores;
        (ii) if asked to play again from the original position, the offender shall be warned by the referee that a third failure will result in the frame being awarded to his opponent; and
        (iii) if asked to play again from a different position, the Foul and a Miss situation starts again.
        Yep. The ref was correct.

        • That was the bit I posted and highlighted in bold above. The ref was indeed correct.

            Yes. You are right. The commentators were going a bit bananas when this happened but the ref was correct.

                If it was Verhaas making the call, I bet David Hendon would think twice before calling it "astounding" and saying "the referee doesn't know the rules". Pretty embarrassing for him. :wink:

                I'm not surprised about Hallett though, he is famously ignorant of the rules, and yet he still feels the need to routinely oppose referees. :wink:

                  Yes. It's good to know the Chinese refs are good enough. I've seen that particular ref before and he's really good. Just quietly goes about his business.

                  I wonder if anyone has tweeted to the commentators the correction.

                      Good points. Be interesting to see if an apology is forthcoming.

                        • Watched the Murphy vs Cope match. Jamie played very poorly. Missing most long pots by a mile. An easy match for Murphy.

                            Yeah caught up with that match at 2-0... Every time I watch Cope... I start to think about him showing us the potential that we used to see from him...
                            Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

                                Eurosport doesn't show anything in the middle of the night, but the matches are televised locally, so they should be available on Eurosport Player, if you have it. Otherwise you can probably find a stream anyway.
