O'Sullivan has not exactly been the only person in contention all season to win tournaments.

He has been beaten a few times this season after all so quite a number of players have threatened O'Sullivan in matches.

If people in mid March 2012 says that player x is better than player y without a shadow of a doubt because at that point player x has won more world championship titles than player y but player y at that point had won more tournaments and made more centuries overall thsn player x, they have no right to suddenly turn around 731 days later and ask "Who's better? " when player y has more world championship titles than player x and player y also won more tournaments and made more centuries overall than player x at the same point 2 years later.

Those very people 2 years were basing who's superior on how many world titles they have actually won and it's argument closed. Now it's if Higgins wins the next 2 he'll be superior to O'Sullivan again. Of course Higgins would be if he does but this year's Crucible has not even began yet so right now it's only a supposition that may or may not actually happen.

Higgins is an all time great but he is no ROS. This is becoming more apparent the closer the pair get to retirement.

Sadly, I don't see Higgins returning to his old form on a consistent basis. Maybe in the odd match, but not winning a tournament.

I watched Higgins vs Ronnie live in Newport. I was quite happy that I got to see a Higgins vs Ronnie match live, but John played so badly. It was a shame to see a player of his stature play like that.

He needs to lay off the booze, improve his diet and get some weight off IMHO. he doesn't look the healthiest player on the tour!

It's not surprising that Higgins has failed to maintain it only 14 months from his 40th.

From the 1980's onwards, how many professional snooker players have remained dominant and still winning at the Crucible coming up to 39? Nobody has. Higgins won't buck the trend that's for sure. Nobody will.

Higgins did very well indeed to still be in world championship winning form as late as 36 years old later that very month.

Buck trenders such as players suddenly winning at the Crucible at such an age again that hasn't happened for a long time just doesn't happen in elite level professional in the 2010's and certainly in the many decades beyond. I can't ever see a 40+ to 50 year old ever again winning the worlds at the Crucible the way Reardon did in the 1970's. It's far harder now than it was in 1978 to be so dominant let alone be so dominant even invincible in your 40's the way Reardon was.

O'Sullivan has won at 38 and if he really wanted I can see him winning it again in the next 5 years. So we might see it, but it might be a one off
