Gerard is ranked outside the top 64 but he was just a best of 7 game away from winning a major, against somebody who had only won a single major before...

Point I was making is with one good result a player will make a massive move up the ranking whereas before they would not and on the other side, players who have had a lean season or so, no names mentioned, can lose a third of their rolling total overnight, if for example they bomb out of a tournament early they won two years ago for over 100k - which would mean a big drop.

On the plus side, it won't affect when they enter a tournament, interesting times ahead

Yes we are in for interesting times and I agree with all your points. There's a lot of players who have cruised along staying in the top 64 by just managing to stay beat players in the early rounds and then getting knocked out. I'm not sure they will survive by doing that with the new system. Players of that calibre will be forced to enter just about every tournament to ensure they earn enough to keep their ranking.

On the other hand a quarter final victory in any major tournament will keep them on the tour for another year.
