Luck certainly was with Selby in the whole match that was obvious from early on,in my view the person who cannot score more than 50 points in the whole match and cannot clear a frame at one visit at least one time, cannot be proud of himself to win in the way we all saw yesterday .He freezed his oponents rythm and probably because this is the only way to beat Ronnie o Sullivan. The only person who really ever stood against Ronnie was John Higgins.

Lots of bitterness in this thread which is sad and poor form really.
Congrats to Mark as he played great snooker and is a well deserved winner as ROS does not lose often when holding a 10-5 lead.

2014 World Championship - Discussion
Over two days the best man won as simple as that, you have to give credit to Mark and he's'a worthy champion, which fair play to Ronnie he admitted himself.

A great clearance to win and an excellent match all round..Selby was the better player on the day and deserves all the credits...A very worthy champ.

Is one of my first posts here and I must say its fantastic reading this thread. I am from Israel and can say I am a Ronnies fan.
my 2 cents is : Ronnie lost the game simply because he missed the important shots and on the other side it was Mark who was potting them. on that 23rd frame, as I saw the hesitation from Ronnie lining up for that simple winning pink ( is there ever a simple shot on WC final...?) I knew that this is a sign that maybe it wasnt to be Ronnies 3rd in a row championship.

it was very uncomfortable to witness such sadistic snooker from the torturor, so my mind screamed out 'enough' and sandwich shut the laptop at 15-12

Mark Selby is definitely a very worthy world champion. He puts in as much hard work as anyone else in the circuit and produces consistent results throughout the whole year, and even through all the years that he has been a professional. He had to fight extremely hard for the trophy(especially in the semis), which were the very qualities that he epitomises; true grit and dogged determination to fight for every ball and every point. His all round game is also very good, though people often tend to criticise his technique. He may not be as exciting as Ronnie but he definitely has the very hungry look and passionate eyes for the game, even though he often couples that up with some jests. His consistency and hard work is something which everyone should emulate(remember Alan Mcmanus words recently) which hopefully, can produce better, more exciting and hard fought snooker for all to enjoy, thus pushing up the level of snooker to another high.

all this Ronnie didn't play at his best or he would have won nonsense, no one was complaining when he was 10-5 up yesterday, credit goes to Selby for sticking to his game and causing Ronnie problems, its like when a Team such as Man u lose everyone says they didn't play well rather than giving credit to the opposition for stopping them doing so.
Ronnie had his chances so no excuses, it wasn't his day, he'll have others for sure.
Mark Selby deserved to win and it was up to Ronnie to stop him but he couldn't.Last edited by alabadi; 6 May 2014, 01:35 AM.

Is the only thing we should remember that Mark Selby is finally a world champion? Because I really can't handle the rest of the whole championship.

Well, that was quite a World final... It wasn't really high-quality stuff, but I don't remember the last time we had so many close and tense frames. I was getting nervous just watching it, and at one point I even considered switching it off and doing something less stressful, but I made the right decision and stayed with it from start to finish.
And what a finish it was, superb clearance from Mark Selby in the last frame, particularly that green along the black cushion. Those two big breaks in the previous two frames weren't too bad either. He responded every time O'Sullivan threatened to come back, just like he did against Robertson. He was struggling to score for most of the match, but he never lost his composure, and he played some brilliant safety today. As I said before the match, no one plays the game with more heart than Selby does, and he has truly earned this World title.
Someone said earlier that they would "rejoice" if Selby won this final, and I have to admit I am quite pleased for the suffering of all the people whose main interest on this forum is expressing their hate of certain players. And no one gets more than Selby, especially when he is winning. The guy tried his best to make something out of his chances, but he kept losing position and breaking down early, so I don't know what else he was supposed to do than to play safe. O'Sullivan was breaking down all day as well, but somehow him winning the scrap would have been better for snooker, while Selby winning it has killed it? Personally, I think O'Sullivan coming to the tournament without any great form and still winning it would have been more worrying. But luckily at least one player didn't **** his pants against him. It was 11-4 on the day, can't argue with that, the better man won.
That said, you have to know how to win and know how to lose, and O'Sullivan was a gentleman today. He didn't have it on the day, but it's a credit to him that he got this far without really playing his best stuff. He could easily come back stronger next year and win it again, and he will most likely be the man to beat.
Looking forward to the Wuxi Classic now!
