I say it happens every year - I should rephrase that. It has happened every year since 1998. It is always the bottom quarter-final that finishes with the double session on the Wednesday; the third quarter-final finishes on the morning session.
There is some dodgy scheduling going on for the quarter finals according to worldsnooker.com. Selby/McManus are playing their 2nd session at 1900 hours on the 29th and are back at 1000 hours the next day. Trump/Robertson are playing their 2nd session on at 1430 hours on the 30th and then they're right back on at 1900 hours for their final session. Why don't they just swap Selby/McManus's 3rd and Trump/Robertson's 2nd session around?
This happens every year on quarter-final Wednesday.
Basically, it's done so that there is a guaranteed full session in the afternoon. Otherwise the afternoon would be two matches to a finish, which for the audience is undesirable if they are both at, say, 11-5.
So they make sure that one match is in its second session.
Yeah I didn't like that. Rob I think means well, no malice there, he's trying to be complementary, but it's not very smart. He should do better and not embarrass Shaun like that.
How is it relevant to anything anyway? I don't know why they keep banging on about it.
Cheers CH. And I agree watching ROS sometimes is totally mesmerising. Out of this world is more like it...
My problem is I like a good tight game with lots of drama. Up until the last frame players going head-to-head, and if both players are up for it then some mistakes can make even more drama. For me that's when snooker is at it's best. With Ronnie being...well, Ronnie basically, matches tend to be one-sided...the exact opposite of what I want to watch.
Anyway...though I'd add this to my thoughts about Ronnie for a complete picture. Apologies for rambling on
Tomorrow should be a good day with some very good matches...can't wait!
I can totally understand the wanting close frames thing.
I've come to the conclusion that I want Dale to win. It would be the most mind blowing final in the history of the game.
Thanks for the reply. I can understand what you mean about the hype. Some of it is self generated. I'm a big fan of Ronnie and when he's playing well it's a wonder to watch.
In a way it would be good for Mark Selby to win as he's played so well over the years and you'd think he should win it sooner or later.

I would love for Shaun to win it or else Mark Selby. Both imo deserve to win the title for their continued hard work over the years and move to the top of the field. I also have the greatest respect for both players, the way they treat the game and their opponents.
Dominic Dale would be cool to win the WSC But let's be realistic...
I respect Ronnie's abilities and also his positive changes in personality and work-ethic + mental toughness lately during bad spells in a match. I'm liking what I see and especially what I hear at times from him (but not always though). Unfortunately I have a hard time with all the hype surrounding him and it's a major turn-off for me. Therefore I'm always inclined to want someone else to win...also because I like rooting for the underdog.
Anyway...you asked

Think I'd like to see Selby and Robertson come through the bottom half and O'Sullivan and Hawkins come through the top half. They should both give reasonably competitive semis and give the neutral a chance to see the O'Sullivan/Robertson final that they want.
daffie. I take it you don't want Ronnie to win then?

Robertson played superb and Trump was good as well.
Murphy takes it too however it was a bit scrappy from
the little I saw of it.
More good snooker to come.
Would like to see McManus, Dale, Murphy and Robertson advance.
I'm afraid that's my view as well. We need as strong a player we can to stop ROS. I would love to see Shaun progress and win against ROS though...miracles do happen
Well played Shaun!
What an amazing break considering the table. That was top drawer.
