Well if this brand of snooker is the snooker of a world champion, then no interest in this game for me any longer. This guy is the most widely "hated" in today's snooker, no matter how noisy his fans are.
He seems like a nice enough bloke, his style of play is just extremely cynical and dull, and ultimately bad for the game.
And he is capable of playing a more open game, he's got over 300 centuries, he's quite deliberately making the final into a war of attrition. He has every right to do that, of course, but you've got to expect criticism if you do so.
Don't you spend some time on this board? Apart from Trump and, at times, Maguire, can't see a player that gets as much "hate" against him as Selby... Maybe you've got some names to drop
Well.. Air-headed fans aren't really the most reliable source for a "statistic" like that.
All the way Mark J!!
I understand nothing from snooker. - Dedicated to jrc750!
What odds did you have? I have a fiver on him at 10-1 so I will win fifty quid. Would rather Ronnie won though
I did the same, desperately want Ronnie, but with the score at 7-10 this morning before play got 5.2 to 1 on betfair before start of play today. Put £10 on. Can take £45 now. Hmmm
The way I look at it is if I do have to see this style of snooker win a world championship, I want paying for it.

And he will get criticism. But he doesn't care at all.

I like watching Ronnie knocking in ridiculously easy 147's, but i also love watching Selby, he must be the best tactician in today's game ??
Only person i used to get annoyed with was Ebdon, sometimes Robbo really pees me off, spends minutes looking at a blatently obvious shot, was it over 5 minutes once ????
The same reds that RoS can't pot, Selby eats them all up for dinner and wins the frame .. who cares about centuries and high breaks ... its about winning with your strengths and Selby's strength is his tactical superiority followed by good enough potting to reap the benefits from the opportunities he creates from positions no one else can
I totally agree. A great tactical match from Selby. RoS plays with his arm, Selby plays with his head!
Boring everyone to death has been Selby's tactics for years. Everybody seems to discover it tonight...
Nah Selby's been getting a bit of stick over it for years (though not from the pundits). A lot of players have commented on it as well - Higgins, Murphy, Robertson, Dott etc.
"If the black goes in, I go 5-1 ahead and wouldn't lose. But after that, he just bored me to tears.
"I felt that I was living in a nightmare. I don't know what the stats were, but I'm guessing that even in the frame I won my highest break must have been about 12. I just couldn't get in the balls. Either the red was safe, the black was safe, the pink was safe...I was finding it hard to stay interested.
"I'm not having a go at him. He is without a shadow of a doubt the best in the world at frames like that. I just find it hard to play them."
"It could be a long day tomorrow," said Dott. "I don't think that is a good advert for snooker tonight. That is just my personal opinion. I don't like being involved in games were lots of people are actually leaving.
"It is not so much putting me off. You just don't get rhythm. It is like killing the game. It is the equivalent of a football team putting 11 men behind the ball and not attempting to come out. It is just the way Mark plays.
"He enjoys frames like that, but by the time it reached 5-5, I had no rhythm whatsoever. I mean none. Almost like I hadn't potted a ball.
"I know Mark will say the balls went awkward, but he constructs the frames that way. And it was hard to get out of.
"In one of the frames I thought I'd just smash the balls up. Even in the last frame, I went for a long red that I potted that I would probably never have went for because I didn't want to get involved in a safety game.
"It might sound like I am having a go at him, but I am not. He is the complete opposite of Judd Trump, but Mark is not there to entertain the crowd."
I thought this was harsh and sour grapes at the time, but I'm starting to understand what he meant.
