I can't say I'm enjoying the seeds struggling again, like last year and the year before. But it's made for some interesting matches.

Ding has been very strong in the key frames towards the end of matches this season, winning a lot of them with big breaks, but it's mostly been when he was playing well in general. Here he is struggling a bit, but I still fancy him to prevail under pressure tonight.

I can't believe what John Higgins was doing on the other table... That cut on the black when he had a big lead in the frame, instead of putting something safe. It was almost like he lost all interest in winning the match and just went for the maximum, as if to compensate for all the crap he played earlier. He played a similar shot some time ago, can't remember which match, when he attempted a red in off the pink after he'd lost position, crazy shot that turned out to be his last in that match. Very unusual, if you consider his textbook shot selection over the course of his career. He got out of this pretty well though, only 6-3 down. But McManus is not playing bad at all.

Wasley has proven to be a good player but his temperament irritates me. Ding has gained lots of experience closing out matches whilst under pressure so I hope he gets the job done swiftly here.

So only one more frame required by Ding. I hope Wasley can take it to a decider.

They're being taken off after this frame, not gonna be nice for them going back on after this evenings match later with how the match is balanced.

Ding in real trouble here, making so many mistakes, his cue action has gone, he is snatching a lot of shots. For me you can't call him a great player if he can't handle the pressure at the crucible. Its all well and good people raving about him equaling Hendry's record this season of ranking title victories but many of these events are much lower in prestige and not all the top players have entered them.

I honestly can't see him winning a world title. He should be at his peak now and overwhelming favourite for this tournament but he simply can't deal with pressure.

I saw him play in the Players Championship (I think) earlier this year. He never missed a ball. He was a machine. He definitely still has the ability.

I was betting on the fact that even of Higgins missed McManus does not have the ability to dish up ... how wrong I was ... McManus was ice cool in that clearance ... admittedly he should never had gotten the chance in the first place
