And oh yea,i accept the fact that selby is the champion,he beat them all, but no doubt in my mind that he is the most dreadful player to watch since peter ebdon.Very bad for snooker, but oh well chelsea was also boring but they won the CL title and football moves on,but thats easy beacause football has a huge fan base.I know ronnie deserved to loose this match, but i'll say that Mark Selby is not a worthy champion, knows nothing about a gentleman game or entertainment,no grace and class or whatsoever, just a pure "opportunistic money maker".If Joe Perry did win against ronnie now that would be beating the rocket in style, and he was pretty close, that was a great match to watch,i even rooted for Joe because he showed some "balls" to ronnie, but this final was b...**** and all thanks to the great mark selby..
I don't understand how could anyone defend his style of playing, but oh well, there are even stranger people on this planet.
And yea Neil Robertson is the player of the year for me.**** rankings.Neil is going to get it next year, great player and i hope ronnie will be back to his game to spice things up again and challenge hendry's records.
i don't tend to post on non cue threads but you my friend are a total muppet. selby was superb in that final and deserves all the credit he gets, he was the better player on the day and if you don't think so you don't understand the game. ronnie i am sure will bounce back and win it again but selby was the best player over the week by miles.

They look for things to criticise and make up things that isn't true, Selby's average shot time was like 26 seconds, compared to O'Sullivan's 21 seconds, and Robertson's 31 seconds in the Semi final, this is the World Championship Finals and you're complaining the players aren't quick enough? 26 Seconds isn't slow, the players aren't supposed to rush themselves so they start making careless mistakes, they're supposed to think through the possibilities before rushing to play a shot! Selby's shot selection was perfect in a way that he won the Championship by a great margin 18-14 against one of the top players in the world who also happens to be the player in form, O'Sullivan also happens to have had a few easy match where he won by a good margin with sessions to spare, plenty of time to relax and rest, and practice, he also have his top sport psychiatrist Steve Peters to help him settle mentally, O'Sullivan also had the luck of the 15 minutes mid-session break, and also the 1 hour 30 minutes rest, when both times the momentum was clearly in Selby's favour and O'Sullivan's head was all over the place cracking under pressure especially missing the straight pink in the middle with his hand on table, after all these environmental advantages, Selby still won 18-14!! Coming back from 10-5 down to win 18-14 against O'Sullivan I'd like to see anyone else here doing better!

Snooker is not a game that you play to race against the time, I'm sure O'Sullivan is not complaining as there's no excuse if a certain player can't even cope mentally with a guy that is averaging 26 seconds at the table, he shouldn't be playing snooker! What about other sports like Golf, are we going to have people complaining the guy is walking too slow to his next shot, that he's taking too long on his putt that it's putting off the next player?

If you want to watch quick fire snooker I guess you shouldn't even be watching the World Championship, or the snooker pro-circuit for that matter, you should just watch some exhibition where there's no such thing as safeties and balls are smashed around without consideration of the consequences then we can hold a brainless snooker world exhibition championship that way!

Great post! Couldn't have said it better.

Bad contact, as simple as that, the cue ball jumped but as usual Ronnie doesn't react when he gets one so it goes unnoticed.

This something that World Snooker needs to address first and foremost in the game, last years championship was spoiled by bad contacts and in many matches this year bad contacts were crucial in deciding frames.

Phenolic resin balls are cr^p and need to be gotten rid of.

                  • if you hit a ball too hard on those tables the white and ob will squirt. ron hit that pink with venom and at least 30% harder than he needed to, 20% less power it would of gone in.
he was trying to batter selby with the intimidation factor that goes along with playing ronnie and his pride of performance. it worked on sunday but monday he was an imitation of himself in every way, like an imposter, with the differant hair style and care free way he went about his business

                    • Amazing, when those who don't get it their way will find every excuse to discredit the winner. complaining he played slow, he was cheating, he was lucky and so on.

I understand that Selby is not everyone's cup of tea, but to call him a cheat and not a worthy champion is a disgrace. I don't like Trump, carter and others but when they play well will admit it, rather than slate them.

I think Selby is one of the quicker players on the tour and his clock averages prove it, when he is in amongst the balls he is quicker than most. I think a lot of people are getting confused with the amount of safety compared to actual potting average times.
he is a prolific break builder and in previous seasons we have seen his century averages are better than most players on the tour.

he produced one of the best games I have seen against arguably one of the most dangerous players over the last year Neil Robinson. his long potting was outstanding and his pot success was 93-94% .

it wasn't O'Sullivan's day as simple as that, he knows he can beat Selby and so can others, he proved it in the Masters where he took he chances, for what ever reason he wasn't playing at his best and maybe some of it is his own doing rather than Selby's style of play.
after all he was on the verge of winning his sixth world championship title and be in a bracket that very few players have done, so what ever it was nerves, bottle or anything else we can't take away the fact that Selby played a very good game, controlled his nerves when things weren't going his way in the first two sessions and showed a lot of guts to close out the match in style.

in my opinion he is A WORTHY CHAMPION a great ambassador to the game and credit to snooker.

sorry fellow but your missing something here. i'm sure no one will deny selbys right to have his name on that trophy along with murphy and robertson because they are all top class players. your missing out big time on the finer details of this game. i think it would take some experience to really know what went on on monday

                        • I don't like personnel attacks on players, yes we can all have different opinions on how the game should be played, and right now the two players in this final are at opposite ends of the spectrum and that's probably the reason for for such pro and anti factions. I don't like the way Selby plays the game, and that is as valid a stance as those that do, but I certainly don't hate the man as seems to be quoted a lot by his supporters of anyone who disagrees with their viewpoint , he is a worthy winner of that there is no doubt, but if he was playing in our kitchen I wouldn't go and watch him.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!
