Again our views on Selby differ (probably too much). I don't see Selby's playing style as "systematically taking an overly cautious approach on the table". I see it as a percentage-game, and this is not equal to negative play...the opposite really...very positive in my view. You are playing positive shots and at the same time thinking about all the various possibilities and outcomes, applying a risk ratio. In my book that is very smart play. Higgins played the same game....good hard match play as they called in nowadays.
Well, it's fine in a discussion. Considering the unreal amount of pure gibberish that has been going on in this thread, I have no problems with differing opinions.
I thought the definitions were the same, though, more or less. He's turning down some options if that can lead to options for his opponent. Anatoly Karpov did that in chess on his way to becoming one of the best players ever.
I just think Higgins has always been more committed to no-defensive-aspect-added sort of attacking play over his career, at least more frequently than Selby. Selby, to be fair, does play some shots like that from time to time, albeit with less success from what I see, so, that's why I said "He makes most out of his style".

Regardless, I do agree that's the smart thing. That's also I'm not thoroughly entertained with it, however, since I like when a player plays the silly shots from time to time. That's what made me a Ronnie O'Sullivan fan. That's also why the sport lost some of its appeal to me in the last couple of years, with even Ronnie playing solid match snooker nowadays.

Why are a load of people carrying cues around Sheffield to dramatic music then screaming and waving them... The BBC do get some bloody weird ideas.

I meant to say "and the Selby haters in here." I wasn't trying to infer to you as a Selby hater yourself. Just "apply your shortminded views to yourself and also to the Selby haters". Because in my view and it's been clear from this thread over today that the ROS worshippers and the Selby haters are the ones with blinkers on.

    Anyway...

Btw I said a lot more in my explanation before...would have been more gentlemanlike from you to respond to that part as well...

Bad reaction for a gifted frame though, I'd be more shocked at his miss than bang my cue!
I would of loved the pink to run safe though to see the reaction on here

Because it's the natural result of having marathon frames that they claim to love.
I myself love marathon frames over the course of a long match, anyway, though I don't think it leaves any room to complain about coverage to me.

Regardless, I dislike the term "real snooker fan". You don't have to love everything about snooker to be considered a fan, nor you have to like every player and appreciate their style. It's highly conceited to think of it as "real snooker" or "not so real snooker". If you are a fan, you are a fan, even you are bored. That's how it goes for me. I can say "This frame is pure trash" or "That player bores me to no end" and if I'm still watching that game, it's just because I'm a fan of the game.
