I thought Ding played okay most of the time. Wasley played better than expected.

I'm a huge Ding fan and as I've already said gutted to see him out, but can you imagine the reaction from a certain member here if that situation had been Selby?
You could clearly hear Brendan state that it definitely wasn't touching when he first inspected it.

Therefore, he correctly followed the rulebook and shifted the balls back to their original position.

As ever, a good performance from Brendan.

      • LOL. His Wikipedia entry has already been updated to reflect the win. Someone was fast.

Kudos to Wasley though who played so well.

We already can pencil a 6th title for Ronnie....
There is still Selby and Robertson if you like them.

Actually, I have a feeling that a qualifier like Kyren Wilson or Wasley have a better chance of beating Ronnie because they don't have any history with him so they're not mentally scarred.

Well u knew what I meant .. the tournament needs Selby not White
Why exactly does the tournament need a boring, extremely lucky grinder like Selby?
... this is Snooker WC, Not a casting Show or big brother.
Really, is it *rolls eyes* Selby is awful to watch

Depends where his head is, of course, but he seems in a pretty good place at the moment so I'm guessing you won't get brilliant odds on him, let's put it that way.

Yes, a fair assessment. Ding strikes me as being the last player who would try something on like that and I'm certainly not suggesting any form of sportsmanship. I do maintain, however, that had it involved a certain other player, more people would be discussing it.

                    • Well done to Wasley. Ding flopping yet again at the Crucible, what a surprise.

^They call him (Selby) "Siesta from Leicester" for a reason.

All of us, glorious parts of the whole!

                          • Flukes are a part of the game, and a spectacular one at that. Both players had some luck, as well as a few massive blunders. In any case, Wasley did not win "because of a fluke"; he won because he clawed his way to 9-9 with great tactical play, and found himself in a position to win the deciding frame.

On balance, I'm happy with the result because upsets and underdog successes please me, and Wasley's composure today impressed me. Felt sorry for Ding, of course, but as the established player with grand aspirations the onus was on him not to make so many mistakes.

He may never become world champion at this rate. Weird that he seems to be jinxed in his adoptive hometown.

Disagreed. As we've already seen here in the first few days of the 1st Round, the unexpected can happen at any time.

I can take or leave Selby, but as someone here once pointed out, there's no such thing as luck. Luck is something man invented to explain why certain things happen, because it's too hard from them to accept that they just do.

If a player tries to pot a ball in the corner pocket, misses and the red then cannons off three other reds before dropping in the centre bag; that's not luck. It just so happens that the red hit the other reds in such a way that it found its way into the centre pocket. It's nothing more than a series of events that resulted in something we decide to call luck.
