As for the crowd's reaction, that was nothing more than an appreciation at seeing the underdog win."Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

Well, you can't ask for a better evening of snooker than that.
First of all, congratulations to Michael White for coming back from 8-4 down to force a decider. I don't think I've ever seen anyone miss so many blacks off the spot and other sitters, and still be competitive. Selby didn't really give him a chance in the decider though, he played a very strong frame. He certainly didn't waste his good form in the 1st round this time, so hopefully we see some of it later in the tournament. Carter was quite good in the 1st round, so it won't be easy getting past him.
The conclusion of Ding's match was great as well. Excellent break from Wasley in the penultimate frame to put the pressure on, and for a while it was looking like he would win the decider in one visit as well. He never looked like he was going to miss, until he took a moment to think about a shot and the pressure caught up with him. Crazy pot from Ding along the cushion, with an excellent black to follow, but nerves got to him as well. Considering the standard he set for situations like this this season, it was quite poor to break down the first time, and quite poor to not make anything from that red over the pocket as well. His defeat leaves a big hole in the top half now, especially since he was arguably in the weakest quarter of the draw. But then again, maybe his best stuff this season was behind him anyway.
On another note, Ding made a couple of excellent attempts to get the snooker behind the black towards the end, and when that pink was going towards the middle pocket on his last shot, someone in the audience shouted "get in". What a nasty thing to shout out loud when someone is about to lose the match after a great effort like that. Why would you wish that on him, Wasley fan or not...

Not the first time the crowd has reacted like that unfortunately in the Ding match. An instance happened on the 16th frame as well if memory serves me right, when Wasley/crowd was urging a fluked pink on the corner, Ding was already getting up thinking to play his next shot and someone in the crowd just shouted "sit back down". That was uncalled for I thought.
But glad to see the classy congratulations in the end after that tough loss.

The UK crowd have warmed to Ding more than any other overseas player I can think of in recent years.
As I've already said, what we witnessed tonight was nothing more than encouragement and appreciation for the underdog."Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

Just this kind of small talking points that indicate a sort of bias, even little. But they're professionals heh, they don't show it. No such thing as rooting. As for the crowd on the other hand... Well can't blame them for supporting the local guy, this just strenghthen my opinion that the Wold Championship should travel a little bit"Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

Having said that, I still fail to see where this notion that Ding is disliked is coming from. I see the exact opposite."Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

about Selby's hilarious 'accident', can someone tell me why the free ball wasn't called? the ball he was supposed to hit was definitely not on on both sides if I recall correctly.

If a player tries to pot a ball in the corner pocket, misses and the red then cannons off three other reds before dropping in the centre bag; that's not luck. It just so happens that the red hit the other reds in such a way that it found its way into the centre pocket. It's nothing more than a series of events that resulted in something we decide to call luck.[/QUOTE]
Interesting philosophy, are you implying that such a shot can be preempted and relies on skill? Luck seems to be an easier explanation!

HI In Snooker there is 85 per cent skill and 15 per cent LUCK Sometimes one player has all the luck and the other player has bad LUCK
