  • Mark Selby has been one of players who managed to take Ronnie O'Sullivan's A-game off the table en route to defeating him in the past. However, with Ronnie showing great bottle and mental strength throughout the tournament, the deciding factor for him will be the firepower he has at the moment. There is no guarantee that cagey frames will go in his favour the way Ronnie has performed so far, not to mention, it's probably asking for impossible to keep it a tight game over the course of a best of 35. He'll need to find scoring patches of his own to keep up in the scoreline at one point or another.

This year's Masters final was their first meeting in a rather long match in quite some time. I think it dates all the way back to 2010 if you look for the previous one. So, one might say there is no psychological edge whatsoever involved with this game at the current moment, at least compared to back a couple of years ago.

If I had to make a prediction, I'd go for Ronnie winning 18-14, with sessions of 4-4, 5-3 (9-7), 5-3 (14-10), 4-4. It looks like it could be an incredibly close match on paper and has the chance to go all the way to the end. Let us see.
    All the way Mark J!!

      • I'm hoping Selby can get his first win, he sure is good enough, Ronnie been making some mistakes this last week that went unpunished, i feel Selby has got to take advantage of any opportunities that come his way

        • I fancy Selby to win this, sadly. ROS has been slow starters in all of his matches. Selby will win the first session.

          .
Not sure if you consider it a proper match, but Selby did beat ROS 4-3 in the final of a PTC event just before the CoC.

          • Ronnie said that he hadn't played snooker for 2 months leading up to the event?

            Unbelievable.

Hoping for a Selby win as well...it would be fantastic to see him become World Champion for the very first time...he certainly deserves it!

Hoping for more of the same like last night...that's all really

That's a bit of an overstatement though, his Welsh Open win was less than two months before the WC started, and he played in the PTC Finals in late March.

                    • I don't think Ronnie has been bang at it yet, it's been seen in patches, but this is the final he wanted, as he has said before he doesn't like the way Selby plays, and his outlook on the game and just loves to beat him up, so I think he will be on his game from the off. If Ronnie gets a four frame lead at any stage , even 4-0 right at the start, I fear it's over, as he is the best front runner around, if Selby can keep within two all the way through to the last session he has a chance, a slim one I fear, but at least a chance.

A bit of gamesmanship from Ronnie?

Yes. For me, it counts as a proper match, but it's a best of 7, not keeping the place of a best of 19 over two sessions.
