Exactly. Just the final we needed to re-engage the casual viewer. Also disproves the theory that two Ronnie type players hammering away at one another is all that people want to see.

    • I am more encouraged by the whole event figures also showing double figure percentage increases, not just the Final, this to me shows a more general increased interest in the game
So what do people think may be the reason behind the increase across the event?

there are other threads about this and I replied there that recently about 6 youngsters have joined the club where I play, on top of that there have been more recent new members this years as well (not youngsters )
When I say recently I don't mean just the World Championships period but the first half of this year.

And I was speaking to one of the committee and he said the snooker tables have never taken as so much money for many, many years.

So I would disagree with your statement; at least in my area, there is a resurgence in interest

            • I don't think snooker is as dead as you think . We have 3 divisions in our league and not season we will possibly have 4 due to more teams starting up .

I know clubs are closing but there are still places about . I was at my club on Thursday and there was a waiting list to play ...........and there are 16 tables in the club . It is out there , just not many places to play at unlike a few years ago .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

i played at your club many times over the years and won the sunday handy cap a few, plus doing the epsom league and all over the london pro am scene so i know how things have changed. who can afford 5/7 an hour and whos got the time to play?? these are changing challenging times.. many club owners are simply waiting for the developers to turn up with the proper money

                • Not done a Sunday handicap for years .....still do one on a Thursday night though . They have deals where you can play for 5 hours for £10.
I don't remember you playing in the Epsom League.....how many seasons did you play for ?

Very few clubs in our area or the surrounding vicinity , which is why my mates club is doing so well . But yes , challenging times .

                    • 11 pounds an hour peak time, 4 pounds off peak. I would be at the club every day at 2pound an hour

                          • Fairly decent standard in the Premier League now ( except for me ! ) .....if you have the time , ever thought about a return . Always great to see decent players like yourself playing in the league .

incorrect, busy nearly every night of the week
again speaking to the committee chap, the three tables take between £2200 and £2800 a month
I think that is not bad for a social club that is "not" a snooker club
