They have already been reduced from eight players to four, and the Chinese PTCs have now taken over as the tournaments that showcase the strength of the amateurs and give them the most chance to gain experience. They also offer the chance for the best couple of players to gain professional status, so things have already improved quite a lot in that respect.

Surely the major ranking events in China will eventually be played at the venue in their entirety, or at least have the qualifying in China, so the Main Tour players who decide to skip them can be replaced by the best local amateurs, like it's already done for the qualifying in the UK. That would solve the whole wildcard problem really. I also read somewhere a while back that they are considering holding one of the Q School events in Asia, which would be another step in the right direction, in my opinion.

A pretty short session this morning then, easy wins for Hawkins and Liang. Liang had three centuries in his match, but the scoreline could still have been a lot different, as Burnett threw two frames away on the colours from 2-1 down. Zhao Xintong also made short work of Chris Melling with a solid 5-1 victory. Jack Lisowski next for him. It will be a crime if that's not on TV.

Also looking forward to Graeme Dott against Zhou Yuelong later today.
Sorry to go back in this thread but I am just catching up with it. With the new ranking system being based on money won , is there a chance that snooker may become split, by that I mean European (let's face it mainly British ) players just won't travel to Asia to play in the comps, and if there are more tourneys over there ,the Asian players will just play over there and we could end up with kind of parallel tours going on.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

It's a shame that Eurosport doesn't cover the first session. Pretty poor really.

That's gotta hurt, Jamie Jones finds himself 2-0 down, with both frames lost on the final black. The first one saw Fu clearing up from a long way down, including doubling the black into the corner, and in the second one Fu needed a snooker to tie on the blue, and after Jones escaped a couple of times Fu got one on the pink instead, then potted a good pink and black to take the frame. Tough to recover mentally from that...

          Hamilton vs Bingham 4-4
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

That's still being played from the previous session, amazingly.

Some interesting results in that session, McManus takes out Higgins again, 5-4, winning the final frame on the colours. I thought Higgins looked very solid in the 1st round, so I kind of expected him to win this match, but it's that old inconsistency problem again. Or maybe McManus is just turning into a bit of a bogey player for him.

Joe Perry with another whitewash, this time against Milkins. He does have a great record against him, so I'm not too surprised, especially as Milkins hadn't made a single high break in his 1st round win over Morris.

And also Zhao Xintong, continuing his great run with a comfortable 5-2 win over Jack Lisowski. Probably Murphy next for him.

Or game over maybe, because it's tough to see Georgiou getting so many chances again after the interval.

                                Winning ugly is still winning.

Hang on, a century break from Neil.
