I agree with you that I don't think the ref can't volunteer the information but my question is, can a player ask the referee whether a full ball contact is available before he/she chooses their first or second shot? I'm not 100% sure but I would think that is OK and the referee can do any tests he/she wants and reply ...
Asking the referee questions is covered by the rules but (to me) is not in-depth enough, i.e. if not specifically covered then the referee can not provide an answer. Nothing stops the player asking any question by the wayUp the TSF! :snooker:
