That was a nice little snooker marathon for me, I watched yesterday's matches until 3:30 in the morning, then a couple of hours of sleep, followed by a pretty enjoyable Allen-White this morning.
Similar pattern to most of White's matches really, he was missing easy balls early on to go behind, but suddenly started playing well with his back to the wall. Unfortunately the pressure was back on in the decider, and he just can't seem to play when the score is level. It was a great chance for a really good run... Still, it was his first proper major quarter-final since the 2013 WC, if we ignore the short matches in India last season. Hopefully this result can give him some confidence and he can play like this more consistently in the future.
As for Mark Allen, he came to this tournament on the back of two good results in the PTCs in August, so it's nice to see him confirming his good form on the bigger stage. But of course he will want more than just a semi-final.
It was also nice to see Fergal O'Brien in another quarter-final... I remember his great run to the final of the Northern Ireland Trophy in 2008, he was delighted even after losing the match and he said "I'm back", but it actually took him six years to reach the business end of another major tournament. It was always going to be tough to beat Selby though, especially as Selby has a pretty strong record against players of O'Brien's type.
Looking forward to Ding-Dott in the afternoon.
