Maguire has looked quite good again. Yes, he is not playing perfect snooker, but he is still very tough to beat whenever he is in this kind of mood. He is completely focused, not getting frustrated, not doing anything silly, and his game is strong enough to put him comfortably in front. If you think about it, someone like Robertson plays like that all the time, and it wins him matches, even when he is not at his best. If only Maguire had that attitude for all of the last ten years...
Murphy looked disappointed in himself and rightly
so as he let the match slip away. Another decider
where it could have gone either way.
I would expect both O'Sullivan and Maguire to
win their matches.
Ronnie is dragging all his opponents down below his own level. That is very very unlike him. Many uncharacteristic errors too, usually he is deadly when in amongst them.
Me, too. Sean really was cueing beautifully the last weeks and clearly the better player today IMHO.
Selby, Ding, Allen, Walden, Robertson, now Murphy, truely remarkable.
6-5 on the final black, just the way I like it.
Murphy looked like the better player throughout the match, and indeed could have won the match earlier, when some bad luck and the poor conditions stopped him on a couple of occasions. But in the end he has to admit it was all in his hands there, but he played a shocking shot to snooker himself behind the blue.
Once again he came to a major tournament on the back of some success in the smaller tournaments, but he failed to deliver. This was the fourth major ranking event out of five this season where he has failed to reach at least the quarter-finals now. If you count the Champion of Champions as well, he now has 11 wins out of 11 against the lower-ranked players, and 0 out of 6 against fellow top16 players.
As for Fu, obviously he can improve in the next round, like he did from the 1st to the 2nd round last week, and he will need to, because Maguire was quite strong the other day.
What a champion Fu is .... people can say whatever they want but Fu was 7 times a better player than Smurf on safety and that's why he beat him with his C game
