Edit : let me elaborate a bit. Snooker is not ROS...ROS is not snooker. Snooker is a wonderful diverse game that needs both the Ronnies as it does the Selbys. I watch snooker because it is such a great game and never just for any one player in particular. Nevermind taking up the position you did...it's sad and you will always be a loser, that is losing out on a great game.

For one don't call me a worshipper old chestnut I was only going by what many people think and how venues and TV audiences go mad when he's playing. ROS has done so much for snooker and it's laughable at those who state otherwise, and this is probably accepted by other players also. It's the same when a certain person joins a TV show or people will turn up to a certain football game because a particular player is playing its no different. I Was only stating from my first post that snooker can somewhat go into sour mood when ROS is not playing.

But this does not mean people will watch snooker or attend a match for ROS alone, and leave when ROS is out...

unfortunately there are people that will only watch snooker when ROS is there, much to their detriment.
As the commentators say there are "Ronnie-fans and only Ronnie-fans and not snooker-fans", every time ROS is on, there are people in the audience ONLY to see ROS. I saw it myself at the Welsh last year, for each of his matches (not the final :wink as soon as ROS match was over, 1/3+ of the live audience left, even though there was many matches already in playing and scheduled to be played.

And I am sure there are those that will only watch the TV when ROS is on and no one else.

yeah it is a shame that Dean - the tournament is not finished still some great snooker left to be played - the way some people talk you'd think it was over already

Definately! Should be a cracker between Allen and Murphy.

to play a much more offensive game and it should be
an interesting match if Allen can bring his game to the
match like he did against Higgins.

I do not understand why people love to knock tall poppies, O'S is without doubt the greatest player to ever pick up a cue.

Alex Higgins, Hendry and White were also great players however IMO over 19 frames very unlikely to beat O'S.

I'm an Aussie and hope Robertson goes on to win but do not believe he is in the same class as O'S who is absolute magic to watch.

Yes. Murphy has worked hard on all aspects of his game. He had a couple of weaknesses.

1. Would often break down before he got over the winning line. He has no solved that by keeping tight control over the cue ball and more importantly keeping his focus.

2. His safety game was a bit suspect. He's now improved that but it's still not quite their yet. He struggles to lay snookers. Other players like Maquire find that relatively easy.

But overall. A much improved player. Having one of the best cue actions in the business was a good foundation to build on.

That is your opinion but the facts and record books tell the real story. If the BBC keep telling you something it does not mean it's true.
