  • Murphy certainly rode his luck today, I guess when you've won a tournament like the Masters it gives you an extra confidence and he probably feels as though nothing can go wrong for him right now.

Ronnie had a terrible run of the ball most of the match. kept on getting bad splits in the pack, cueball seemed to finish in awkward spots, it certainly contributed to Murphy being able to win the first couple of frames tonight.

The decider was all about that last red and Murphy played an all or nothing long pot on the red only to leave it very awkward for Ronnie and missed it leaving an easy starter.

For all this talk of snooker gods it still amazes me how often luck is the deciding factor in the outcome of matches at this level. I know the guys still have to pot the balls but how lucky has Murphy been today. Allen should have beat him and he got away with that and tonight Ronnie should have buried him and it was only Ronnie's bad luck that cost him a comfortable win in the end.

...and by the way: if anything, it was Ronnie who played an all or nothing shot on the last red

Come on, it wasn't that bad. Murphy knocked a red in when playing the split in the fifth frame to leave O'Sullivan in, and O'Sullivan fluked a snooker in the next frame when he played a bad safety, again winning the frame as a result.

And in the end O'Sullivan had a mid-range red for frame and match, so it was all in his hands.

          • Murphy was the better player and its nice to see
him win again. He deserved the win and O'Sullivan
            did have his chances.
Come on Robertson and win this and move on.

            • Ronnie's fault for playing to move the last red!

Had no choice really, it was a tough pot and the angle he had on the blue he couldn't get nicely behind it. Most players if they have an angle will try and move a ball off a cushion because they are not easy pots, especially in a deciding frame and it being almost frame ball.

Cueball finishing in awkward spots, I get that all the time. And here's me thinking it's got something to do with with my skill level, when it's actually down to pure luck. Phew! Makes me feel a lot better.

                            • Has it ever happened before that all four quarter-finals in a major ranking event went 5-4? I don't think it's happened in the time I've been following snooker.

And amazingly, despite all the deciders it would have been a fairly short evening, but at least Maguire and Robertson played at a "normal" pace tonight.
