Ronnie never loses because the other player played better than him and deserved it, it's called Ronnie syndrome which if not treated properly can leave people throwing their dummy's out of the pram.
It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

    • er, that's because if Ronnie plays well there isn't many people who can beat him! I've only ever seen him genuinely outplayed a handful of times, the rest is when he's not motivated or lacks self-belief. the best example (for me) of Ronnie getting outplayed was the 2007 world championship quarterfinal where John Higgins simply did not give him any easy chances due to fantastic safety and who didn't miss much when was in breakbuilding. And if you listen to Ronnie about John Higgins, there is nothing but admiration and respect.

      • Could you guys please stop praising Sullivan here? It is really annoying - if you want to do so, it would be easier to go and make (another) new thread about it - call it Sullivan - the unbeatable or whatever. I am aware that he has been bother enough to show his true ability only in 26 events or how many titles he won, but just stop it please (sure not irony) ....

Well back to the actual discussion - I think we should not underestimate John Higgins, as he has ofcourse been struggling for couple months now, but his results this week are actually pretty good, so I would go with him as the winner in his match against Maguire. Higgins 5:3

Williams - Fu - the most exciting player I have ever seen there, so I wish he will show us why - 5:4 Williams, a close match I suppose

Brecel - Walden - I like Ricky, he is superb player on his day, but I have stated before, I expect a lot from the young Belgian so I wish he will be the one to progress. I think Walden will prove to strong though, so 5-3 Walden

Woollaston - Wilson - I must admit, Gary Wilson is one of very few pros I have never seen before (till yesterday). I was impressed how he played, he has got really weird placement of the cue (I think even more than Jamie Jones). I will go with Ben Woolaston, 5-2, as he seems to play good ....

I hope for good and quality snooker, that is for sure

        • Here's the vid of Robbo missing the red three times and having the frame awarded to Gary Wilson. Unbelievable stuff really.

          • I didn't watch the Robbo V Wilson match but surely there must be something wrong with that back cushion for the cueball to be squaring up that much that he misses the reds. Look at the angle the white is coming from, he should be expecting to contact a red there surely? Dodgy cushions, dodgy balls, something is definitely not right this event, its no wonder we've seen so many top players struggle.

Yes, he would've had to get the free ball twice to win with two snookers. A possible alternative would have been to get one free ball, then go for two snookers to get the other nine points, one early and one on the blue or pink.

The balls in this particular situation were placed very favourably, but of course it was still a longshot. It takes a "moment of madness" from the other player to actually leave you a free ball, unless you get a really tight snooker and put the red right next to a colour.

He must have put a trace of right hand side on the cue ball hoping to hit the red thin and come back to balk.

A free ball twice and then two snookers to win the frame. :rolleyes-new:

There was no reasonable prospect of Mark winning that frame.

Aye the cushion was off i thought also when i seen it yesterday. There is no way a player like robo is going to miss that 3 on the spin. You can see the white square off. Shame really.

No, just the free ball twice, pot it with the black both times, then clear the table to win by 3 points. Sounds pretty simple

                        LOL. You right

I know it sounds crazy but I'm starting to wonder if Higgins could win this or Higgins and Williams in the final. That would be tasty.
