  • Yep. It's like I said earlier. This is going to be about the player who makes the least mistakes. Each player has had multiple chances nearly every frame to secure a frame winning contribution but they keep mucking up and letting the other guy in.

    Woollaston was very lucky their.

    • The standard is so low for a ranking final that it makes you wonder what the top eight are thinking sitting at home. Or are they so comfortable they don't really care that much?

I enjoy the scrappy finals as much as players knocking in ton after ton.

        • If John nicks this one, Woollaston will certainly not be the happier of the two during the break.

          • Me too, cyberheater, I was thinking more of the other leading pros who would have hammered both of them given this level of play.

Yes. But I guess that's just how finals go.

              What a fluke by John.

              • Higgins flukes the last frame of the session and that just about sums up the whole sorry tournament for me.

                • I feel quite bad for Woollaston...

                  • What a fluke, what a positional shot to the blue!

Despite all of that I think we could still have a match.

Pressure apart, there was nothing tough about brown to blue, he fluked the perfect angle on the brown as well as the pot on the green. He was trying to leave the white on the cushion.

                      • Well, I suspect Woollaston would have taken 5-3 after being 4-2 down, but he must be frustrated not to make it 4-4 now, he was so close... Higgins did fluke the green, but of course Woollaston was in nicely and just needed a few more balls.

Obviously the start of the evening session will be crucial now. It's only a best-of-17, so if they share the first four frames Higgins will be quite close to victory. That's why I think best-of-19 is the better length, it just offers that little bit more time for the comeback.

I don't know what you were expecting, but this is a perfectly acceptable final for me.
As for the other players, they had their chances and these two came out on top, end of.

Shame it didn't go 4 - 4 but I think tonight should be quite entertaining, if you like it tense and nervy. Would be nice to see Ben win it, new blood and all that.

                          The fast and the furious,
                          The slow and labourious,
All of us, glorious parts of the whole!

I'm not expecting anything. My point regarding the other players is that several top names here clearly didn't give a damn whether they won or lost. Some of the shot selection in the earlier rounds was highly unusual to say the least, particularly for best of 7 matches where it's important to keep things tight. And no one could reasonably argue that the standard of snooker in the final so far has been anything but poor, entertaining or not.

                            • Didn't get to see the first session this afternoon, but looking forward to the conclusion of the final this evening. Glad to see Higgins 5-3 up
