er, that's because if Ronnie plays well there isn't many people who can beat him! I've only ever seen him genuinely outplayed a handful of times, the rest is when he's not motivated or lacks self-belief. the best example (for me) of Ronnie getting outplayed was the 2007 world championship quarterfinal where John Higgins simply did not give him any easy chances due to fantastic safety and who didn't miss much when was in breakbuilding. And if you listen to Ronnie about John Higgins, there is nothing but admiration and respect.

Higgins is gradually going the way of Davis. All the tactical skill in the world isn't going to help if you can't score when you get yourself in. And Maguire is never going to achieve the level of success of his peer group because he isn't as strong mentally.

but it was a masterclass by Higgins of keeping your opponent off the table completely for the first three frames, then Liang got a 54 only for Higgins to nick the frame and match with a 65

With the run as it is, Higgins should take it if he can string a few breaks together. Even though I dislike him, there is no denying his class, elusive though it is these days. Then again, I am usually wrong so put your money on Maguire.

and maybe so, he appears to be in a happy place for this tournament so who knows...
"doesn't mean much" well I would say it does and the difference of going out of the last 64, progressing to the next round and more importantly confidence as a player at the table
