    • All débutantes made a century or more than one century on their crucible débuts and won the match not buying anyone a drink and all of them had suspect hair do's

But yes, this was only the third Crucible decider to contain a century. Griffiths knocked Alex Higgins out 13-12 in the first round in 1979 with a century, and Ebdon beat Jimmy White in the second round, 13-12 with a century.
That's quite interesting. Only three deciders won with a century in the entire Crucible history? I never would have guessed this was something so rare.

        • I can't believe that either, there must be more than 2 before tonight...

Good stat anyway and would never had guessed that.

Loads in the Masters i bet as that seems to generate a lot of 6-5 matches.

Yeah it really is surprising, isn't it. But it's true! There have been 1,472 centuries at the Crucible before this year, and 140 deciders. But only twice before has a ton come in a decider.

Lol - Talking of suspect hair do's, I'm wondering if we will see an invasion of footballers hair cuts, the short back and sides type
that seems to be the current trend.

That's an incredible stat. Would never thought it with so many centuries (and final frame deciders). Cheers for that tidbit.

                • Got to love Steve Davis. His commentary just cracked me up when Barry Hawkins went in off, he just went "Oh!". Then commented after saying "Thats wasn't very good commentary was it? Oh!!". I'm glad I wasn't in the audience, I would have had to have left the arena! Classic....

                  • I was just thinking the boards (Plaques) behind the players with their names on, after the match do the players get to keep them as a memento, so in years to come they can show their family and friends they played at the Crucible and who they played, it would be nice if they did and got one each.

you may find that the "boards" with their names on are actually computer terminal screens

                        • The players who beat him were Dechawat Poomjeang in 2013, Ryan Day (2014) And Anthony McGill (2015), he also got beat 10-9 in the first round in 2011, but who beat him that year, in both 2004 and 2005 he lost to Ronnie, in 2004 Ronnie beat him 10-5 and in 2005 Ronnie who was then the defending champion beat him 10-9. So in his six first round (last 32), Stephen Maguire has lost 5 out of the 6 by 10 frames to 9, I wonder if this is another Crucible record, most 10-9 defeats by the same player in the first round.

Maguire has now lost in the 1st round of the World Championship for three years in a row, 10-9 every time. Last year he started playing really well from 9-6 down but didn't really get a proper chance in the decider, and tonight was an almost identical story. Maybe next year he can start playing when the score is 0-0. I think the last frame of the first session was a big one, when Maguire was already past snookers required and McGill fluked a nasty snooker. That was to go 6-3 ahead instead of 5-4. And there was another similar frame tonight, when Maguire was 29 ahead on the last red, but he played an awful safety which allowed McGill to clear the table. It could have been a different story...

Great stuff from McGill in the last frame, he looked under pressure towards the end of the match, but he kept his composure in the decider. I think he won the decider of his final qualifying match with a century as well.

                            • Talking about decider, looks like Selt is going to push Hawkins all the way.
