MS actually enjoys these frames, you can see it in his face. His touch to get those snookers is brilliant. JJ still had his chances to put it to bed though.

ROS must be so pleased for Mark

Selby thrives on those type of encounters and there are few who've ever picked up a cue who can match him in these type of situations.

Sadly, I was really tired, so missed yesterday games completely, just watched a part of the 8 frame of Selby v Jones match, what an awesome snookers has Mark laid, poor Jamie .... must have been great match in a whole.

I hope I will do better today ....

Apart from the usual back-to-the-wall heroics, Selby didn't play all that well and missed a few easy balls. Luckily his draw is fairly easy now until at least the semi-finals, so he has a bit of time to sharpen up...

Well I can't agree with you here, if he goes through his next encounter, he will face either Matt Selt, who has been one of the most improved players last season or Luca Brecel (hopefully), whom I think you are still underestimating him. He has not been on television table this week, but numbers shows, he is scoring great sometimes (not in his 2nd round match).
As much as I like Mark Selby, he is one of my favourite players, I would love Luca to make it as far as possible. He has been really hyped, has been to one semifinal of ranking event and I honestly believe he just needs a bit push to start his progress up the rankings.
His results are quite unstable, but I think it will get better soon. After all, he is still only 20 years of age. There are only 3 players born in 90's that are ahead in rankigs and they all are 3-4 years older than him, not bad.

Yes, I suppose "easy draw" was not the right choice of words, since players like Selt and Brecel can be very dangerous these days. Having said that, we are at the last16 stage now, so the draw for Selby could have been Fu or Higgins or something like that, and that would have been a lot tougher on paper. But now he has a chance to reach the semi-finals without meeting a single top16 player along the way. :smile:

Not saying you don't know but 9 of the top 20 were knocked out before the last 32 stage,it makes it a bit more interesting for me when all the top 64 and more are more competitive,in the case of Selby I'm making a hunch his record against 9th - 20th ranked players at this stage of events is pretty good so its a bit of a wash for me even if its a blowout. :-)

Great Selby and Jones match last night but did anyone else think Steve Davis sounded either drunk or stoned? I'm sure he wasn't because there are probably rules about drinking before doing commentary and I'm sure he doesn't smoke de herb but the tone of his voice and the fact he wasn't really up to scratch made it sound like something was wrong. Perhaps he was on medication but there was something definitely not right. I think even Willie Thorne was getting fed up with Steve's commentary which was predictable and lethargic and he would pause after every 3 or 4 words.

Steve is great in the studio but I've never warmed to his commentary because he doesn't deconstruct the frames as much as people like Thorn and Virgo but last night it was bordering on tedious. Great match though and Jamie Jones should learn from it because his lack of experience cost him the match. If he can turn the loss to his benefit he shouldn't feel too bad about it.

Good win for Martin Gould over the in form Mark Allen, will play Joe Swail next winner to play Peter Ebdon or David Grace, so a great chance for Joe To the reach the semi finals, always liked to watch Joe, be great to see him in the semis.

Nah, Steve's just a naturally layed-back geezer. Don't you remember him playing? Just the same.
