I actually don't agree with what Ronnie did. £10k is a lot of money no matter which way you look at it and the crowd love to see a 147.....but, there is no denying it was an entertaining break of sheer quality, speed and fluency. I'll also admit him turning down the 147 just added to the thrill somehow, I guess as its controversial. So as much as i think he can be a bit of a child at times, I still love watching him when he puts in the effort. A couple of frames before that, he was literally tearing his hair out in his seat and just whacking balls out of frustration. That was pathetic. Ronnie is Ronnie.

My take on the ROS situation :

1st : fans pay decent amounts to watch the game live, and indeed come to see ROS do his special thing. For ROS to opt not going for the 147 and leave the fans hanging (as you could clearly judge by the reaction from the crowd...it was a complete dud), just to have a laugh himself and/or a poke at the WPBSA because of low price money for a 147, is a disgrace imo. Some fans may appreciate this quirk but I bet most won't.
2nd : it's an insult to every working man and woman saying 'well I can't bother with 10k...it's not enough for me to make the effort'

Hey, it's his prerogative (apparently, cause he gets away with it). But that doesn't mean I need to like it. One more reason I would like to see ROS chuck his cue out and retire asap.

Onwards with the snooker it is then... :snooker:

Was it Cao Yupeng that Ali Carter played at The Crucible one year?

I think that was the one I had tickets to, but ended up feeling sick in my hotel room instead. One year, I woke up in the morning, had a fry up, puked and then managed to make it to the first two session anyway. Stupidly, I then went for a Chinese meal before the evening session, and just felt too groggy.

I had a right go at myself for overdoing in the hotel bar the night before, because I could go out on the **** any time, and I'd effectively cost myself a session of snooker for being too hungover. Afterwards, I found out a few of the player had had a stomach bug, so I told myeself I'd probably had that, and felt a bit less stupid. Though the eight or nine pints of lager the night before probably didn't help.

Sorry to share that. I just saw the live score, and was reminded about the time I felt unwell. I thought it'd be nice to gross everyone out.

          Heres the vid

Wasn't hard to get on the black at all really, top and running side would have angled him well on it.

The guys entertained you all and got you talking about snooker regardless of whether you think he was right or wrong.

I personally don't think it was the correct thing to do but he's earnt the right to play and can do as he pleases I guess. I believe that the prize money for maxes should lesson rather than increase, after all they seem to be easier to come by these days with better paying conditions than in previous years. Is a 147 really that special anymore? It may be for us club players but these players have them often.

He is the best snooker player of all time, snooker is just a game, fans got what they payed for and more they could hope for.

                @Tomwalker147...

Agreed. And a maximum imo does not have that super special feeling like it did years ago. They come by relatively often now. Still very special to witness of course. Price money imo should not go up.

I was entertained by the 147 in the last frame (9-3) of the 2014 Welsh Open Final...Eurosport showed a repeat of it just before the start of today's match. That one was a bit special (especially the screwback from the last red lefthanded...).

It's a snooker forum, there's a ranking tournament on. Wouldn't we have been talking about it anyway?

This Just In. Lisowski sticks with tradition, and came to the table without a model on his arm.

Point taken but the amount of comments that have come from his "one less than a max attempt" says alot, as does the amount of media traffic I'm seeing on facebook and twitter!

I find it a shame. There's a gazillion matches on today, and all we end up talking about is Ronnie potting a pink instead of a black.

It gives the impression that one man's actions are more interesting than every other match combined. Sad really.

Another thing to consider ragarding not going for a 147, is there would of been plenty of people (not me) having a bet on a maximum being made, how do they feel.

Ronnie doesn't see the bigger picture, it's not just all about him. Yes he is the main attraction and probably the greatest to ever pick up a cue. But the things he does on a table affects many others.

Its Ronnie making a statement to the powers that be, that the £10k isn't enough for a maximum.

Nice for him that he thinks £10k is a pittance, but my own personal view is that its bang out of order and is a form of cheating. By cheating I mean not trying your best, which is a form of cheating.
Struggling with the game currently, after 6 years away from it.
                          92 centuries
                          2 Maximums

8 more centuries, and I'll be a happy man.

In general I agree it's a sad state of affairs indeed.

I'm watching the MJW - Lyu match on Eurosport atm and to be fair it's been pretty entertaining so far.

Being talked about in a negative context though, the arrogance required to **** away 10k like that is mind boggling. Especially from someone who's meant to have the "peoples champion" mantle.

Then again this is a guy who's had his arse wiped for him from he was no age and clearly has no clue about the value of money.
