A really enjoyable match to watch, well played to Anthony McGill.
Another early defeat for Murphy then... It's funny, Mike Hallett said at the start of the match that "Murphy has had a pretty good season", but I don't know how anyone could have reached that conclusion. He had a little purple patch last month when he won the World Grand Prix and reached the semi-finals of the PTC Finals, but other than that, he went out in the early rounds of every single major event this season. 10 early exits in 12 tournaments, awful stuff for a player of his class in all honesty...
Are you watching Mr Hearn , this is what makes snooker great. If this had been a best of seven it was a completely one sided drubbing, look what having different sessions can do to a match, it's the mental side of the game that makes it great, they can all pot balls. Bring back longer matches before it's to late.
Couldn't agree more, I was thinking after last night's match he should concentrate on getting a few good sized good format tourneys a season on the calendar instead of all the pish..
I think he'd be better off cutting back on tourneys, up size matches, up the prize money and spread the budget over less more meaningful tournaments instead of all the fillers...

Completely agree, whats more it really annoys me how much people over rate this guy. This season, given the lack of form from many of the top players, he really should have mopped up and won at least 2 or 3 titles and taken advantage over the fact many of the top players have either struggled or withdrawn from many events.
I'm going to be a little controversial now and say I'm glad to see the back of him. I hate his pompous way, he talks of himself in such high regard as though he's one of the greatest ever of the game and comes across as very self righteous.
I hope this will bring him back down to earth with a big bang and he reflects that he needs to cut out the superiority attitude he feels he has over the others and just play the game.
Splendid result for McGill. I always knew there was a potential for an upset on this match but I still thought Murphy would have prevailed. But the Scot displayed a tremendous form. For a guy who had a very disapointing season after his nice run 12 months ago, it was a bit unexpected. But congratulations to him, a very well deserved win!
