Good call yes, Holt did a Hitman job and the Thunder from down under made a blunder

Wonder if any more big names will fall ............ time will tell.

And today, just 18 posts during the evening session, the first one 90 minutes in, and most of it being off-topic stuff. We used to be able to almost relive a match by referring to these threads :-(
a good point well made - we shall rectify this.

I think he has been good on the commentary.

        • While the Qualifiers are getting battle hardened with 3 tough rounds, the Top 16 should get together and have an informal round robin competition but to ensure it isn't just an elaborate practice session, they put in 5K each, winner takes all.

would be so surprised if Ding loses

Some players have deeper pockets than others depending on their popularity and location.

The pockets aren't deeper, it's just the way they're cut

Ding is worth more in advertising in china that the top 16 combined!

I pretty much agree with this. Those championing the loss of the big names will eat their words in the latter stages.

We all know the first round is the best chance for the outsider, but now with the qualifiers much sharper, I think it actually favours them.

The thing is the qualifiers largely are outside the top 16 because they aren't capable of playing at the high level of the top 8 players, certainly not on a consistent basis anyway.

I can only see them struggling as the nerves get the better of them or they run out of steam due to the amount of snooker they have played over the last 3 weeks catches up with them. That won't do much for the game if the quality suffers as I feared and mentioned last week.

I completely disagree with this. I would much prefer a finalist who actually respects the championships (e.g. someone who actually bothers to turn up to his press conferences).

Trump vs. Selby would be a great final for me. But there are still other big names left. Higgins is playing like the Higgins of old, Williams is still there (albeit not the player he was) not to mention players like Allen, Ding, Carter. Still lots of opportunities for a great final that does not include O'Sullivan.

                        • I hadn't realised but it has just been on the radio that 5 former champions have been knocked out in the first round.

                          • I just looked it up: It's the first time since 1982 that 3 of the Top-4-Seeds exit already in the first round.
It doesn't really surprise me that Bingham and Murphy are out, they had a very tough draw. But I was pretty sure of Robertson to get through. Holt played superbly though. He used most of the many chances the Australian gifted him and his nerves didn't leave him in the end.

But there have been plenty of early upsets in the past at the crucible. And there are still many of the greatest of the game in the tournament. Can't agree with those that only wish a final with Ronnie and are not interested in seeing some other great players.
I for myself would love a final between Selby and Ding or Selby and Higgins.

True, but this is a slightly biased statistic. One former champion was bound to go out because Williams played Dott.

                              • C'Mon McGill and i am all over him now Neil R is out and gee Holt played excellent Snooker and kudos to him on a great win.

I think McGill will wipe the floor against Fu and still an underdog for the game which is outrageous IMO and when was the last time Fu backed up a performance like he did in Rd1??

Fu is the most inconsistent player on the tour i think.

                                GO McGILL!!!!!!!
If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???
