I want the slow motion ball clash sound as my message alert, love that sound!
If you can find a clip online then this shouldn't be that hard to do actually. Just create a snippit of the sound and you'll have an mp3 or wav to transfer to your phone...and presto
"Alan McManus goes into his first quarter final for quite some time."
Well, not really. I mean, in the worlds, he was in the quarters the year before last, and in terms of other tournaments, he reached a quarter final 6 months ago. Carter's the one who's not as successful at the worlds as his ability would suggest.
The tables are playing really horribly this year, the amount of big bounces in this morning was way too high .... I am not surprised with Carter being really angry, it has cost him a lot. Well done to Alan McManus, making his second quarterfinal in 3 years.
I like WT as a commentator but Ebdon is just talking non stop. The problem is if you mute the sound you lose the sound of the balls being struck and also the atmosphere in the venue. I can't believe the BBC haven't done something about Ebdon here, he really does have verbal diarrhoea. How come these guys don't seem to realise not every shot requires commentary. Terry is quite good at just being silent at times when not much is happening, they could learn a thing or two from him.
Ebdon more suited to commentating on horse/motorsport racing
W Thorne need to retired
Doherty can't pronounce the word three (tree) properly
Davis better at being a pundit than commentating
Taylor get well soon and stop reminiscing about 1985
J Virgo chip on his shoulder
J Parrots clueless
Hendry well balanced
M Hallet doing a great job
C Everton the best
Griffith soothing
I've managed to get a few tickets for this years WC. I've enjoyed the snooker so far (apart from the first session of the Walden-Williams match which got a bit bogged down). The thing I have really struggled with is finding anywhere decent to eat. I've been to a few places nearby the Crucible and have been very unimpressed (unlike the sitiation at the York Barbican). Last night cost me a small fortune for a very unimpressive meal and environment.
Can any regulars point me in the direction of some decent between-sessions nosh?
Also, where's the best place to stay up there? I see that there is a Mecure and a Novotel within walking distance.
The Cosmo buffet was exceptional, ate there this year's visit and last, the BBQ place opposite looks good too. And nice Bourbons in the pub across as well....

Doherty can't pronounce three.. Errrr.. He's irish. It's a regional accent thing, nothing to do with not being able to pronounce it.
I guess you don't understand the vast regional accents we have...
Well done to the old man, I didn't expect him to get this far again. Good match to watch, lots of tension towards the end and some nice shots from both players under pressure. I think the damage was done in the first couple of frames though, when McManus played really well and Carter completely lost his composure.

He has two quarter-finals in PTC events this season, but his last major quarter-final before this one was in the 2014 Shanghai Masters, almost two years ago, wasn't it?

Sorry but you are wrong and unfair about Doherty, he is Irish, many Irish people pronounce three as 'tree'. He does have an annoying habit of sounding like he is dribbling though.
Thorne is good apart from when he gets a bit obsessive about opening the pack up at every opportunity - not every player wants to smash the balls open after the first pot Willie, get over it!
My choice of commentator for any match would be Griffiths, Thorne, Hendry, Everton or Dennis Taylor. John Virgo is just about tolerable if he is teamed up with someone who counter balances his negativity.
I agree Davis should be used as the pundit / studio expert, he isn't right for commentary. Same for Ebdon.
Anyone else hoping Mark Williams can get over the line quickly and cleanly here? I wouldn't put a fight back past Holt but Williams really should finish this off. I quite fancy an inform Williams against Trump or Ding in the QF.
Griffiths, Doherty (even though he can't pronounce tree ) Foulds are my top 3 (tree) commentators. I do with they would just shut up every now and again though, all of them.
I've nothing against Doherty or the Irish accent or any other accent for that matter. Says 1-100 perfectly with exception to tree, durteen, dirty tree lol.
Doherty is decent except every time someone misses he always says "Why didn't he just drop that in dead weight?" as if professional snooker players should be so scared of missing they play like old men down the club.
