    Why?
In China surname is first, so Ding is the surname. I guess (some) Hong Kongese are more british in name order.

    • So that's one record down, nine centuries in the match, I just need Ding to make two more now to break Hendry's record.

      • The WC is great - I love it to bits, but it just doesn't leave any time for other viewing. I've been wanting to watch O Lucky Man! for days, but by the time the snooker's finished I'm too knackered.

Marco Fu Ku-Chan - family name Fu
Ding Junhui - family name Ding
Marco was brought up in HK and Vancouver, where it is normal to adopt a western name as well; when he came to the snooker world Marco Fu was how he was registered and known as.
Where as in mainland China, they tend not to adopt a western name.
          Up the TSF! :snooker:

Fu is not Chinese, he's from hong Kong. In China their first name is their family name and their second name is their "christian" name. Hong Kong has more western influence in its past so I assume it doesn't necessarily work like that. The scoreboard show their family name for both players.

Its also worth noting that fu's first language is Cantonese whereas dings is mandarin.

                    • That black Ding nearly missed looked like a massive kick to me, maybe just because he hit it so hard.

Do you think when McManus mutters along to himself, he's hearing someone reply?
