Cov86. Why would the home crowd support a foreign player over one of their own???
Because that player is probably (my opinion only) the single worst number 1 to watch in the history of the game. I just watched him take over 50 seconds to pot a straight black. Most safety shots at least 1m 20 seconds. It's horrible to watch, but of course granted very effective putting opponents out of rhythm.

I think the only recent players who would deal well with this are Higgins and Hendry, who at their best would be some way better than Selby in my book.

"one of their own"? Doesn't Ding live in the UK anyway. Sounds pretty spurious to me
Anyway I would have thought the paying crowd would want to see a competitive match. The total silence when Ding plays a decent shot is such a contrast to the shouts of COME ON MARK every time he rolls a black in off the spot. Ok ok slight exaageration but it is still a bit ridiculous in my view.

        • This is a horrendous result for the Final. 7-1 or 8-0 down I really can't see Ding (or anyone) come back vs Selby in this form. But...we know it's the Best of 35 so there is still time.

Grasping at straws here, but not much else we can do. Hope is a good thing.

          • Maybe if Ding finally wins this frame, he will feel a little bit relieved.

              • Yes one of their own. He's British after all. Do you think if this was in China it would be any different? He may live in the UK but he's not British.

Yes but can you imagine how difficult it must be, in your first final, as a 'foreigner', playing against a hostile crowd that appears to support your opponents gamesmanship.

I'm not saying they should be going nuts for Ding, but a bit of support would be nice. It almost seems cruel to be cheering and shouting for Selby here when he is already miles ahead and Ding is almost having a nervous break down out there.

I'm a tennis fan and one of the things I love about Wimbledon is that the crowd always get behind the underdog and give them a boost when they need it.

                  • Selby taking his foot of the gas...Ding gifted a couple of chances, needs to take them!

                    • What a surprise, up and down on the safety shot again....Aghh. Can't take it!!!

                      • I don't think the audience is "hostile" to Ding in the slightest; I think they are stunned like us at the score line and are silently wishing him to start play how we know he can!
                        Up the TSF! :snooker:

                        • I thought Ding would've put this frame away, needs to get his scoring back on form because he has zero chance of scrapping it out with Selby. I like Selby, he plays a different style of snooker, some say it's boring, but I would find it boring if everyone played the same way.

I'd hope the crucible crowds give him a rounding roar of applauds regardless if they're there for Selby

                            • Ding would still be in it at 6-2, he easily has the game to win it from there.
