Or, maybe I just dislike him and don't need a reason to pick lol
Funny thing is if it were ronnie chatting to me looking to pinch a ciggy during the regal scottish in 2000 nobody bothers......

    • A very enjoyable first day of the final, particularly tonight's session.

It would have been nice for Ding to take one of the last two frames and make it 9-8, but after nearly going seven frames behind I think he will be happy enough to still be in the match. It was a good move for Selby to prolong that 15th frame as much as he could, but I think it was equally important for Ding to keep Selby up in the last frame, because it was clear that Selby was tired and getting very frustrated at having to play on...

Credit to Selby for playing his best match of the tournament when it matters the most, just like I thought he would. Ding disappointed me a little, clearly feeling quite nervous early on, and he hasn't been able to impose himself on this final at all. He is not getting in with long pots, and Selby has prevented him from finding any scoring rhythm so far. If Ding plays the way he did against McManus tomorrow, I still think he will win, but it's a question how much he still has left at this point. Selby looks tired as well, but he could be on his deathbed and still fight like no one else...

It should be a cracking day tomorrow.

It was one of the things that amazed and amused me about Sam Baird to be honest - said a chat with a fan during the match helped him settle his nerves.

Regarding Ronnie, is it me or does he seem to have lost most of his sense of humour as the years have gone by? I suppose the expectations are different now he's the legend rather than a talented young player, but he seems a lot lighter in clips from 15 or so years ago.

his head was in a bin that year, he should have lost to dave harold when 4-0 down in a race to 5 in an earlier round but ended up with maybe he most perfect ever performance to win the final against mark williams 9-1.

Really don't think that would be good enough, if Selby keeps his own level. He has to play better.
What could help though is that to me Ding looked fitter at the end of the day.

                          • Not really enjoying this final, many frames have been tedious and too long. Ding hit century after century in his last match and now he's been dragged into a defensive battle against the grinder Selby. Hope Ding wins this, really can't stand the thought of Selby becoming champion with his style of play.

Absolutely and if anyone was in any doubt about how Selby plays and what his tactics are then, watch frame 15 from last night.

                              • I like and appreciate a player that knows his way around the table and is not just a potter. It's what the game is about. Being a solid all round match player is what i like in a player, But Selby is soooo difficult to watch at times aye!
