I imagine it has to do with shorter matches as well as the new format. The top players have now to play more matches and consequently more chances to have a bad day and to slip.

In the first round so far the top players have been pretty clinical though. None of them went out and only Ding had a very close match.
Now also Stuart Bingham defeated Adam Stefanow with an easy 6-0. And Mark Selby leads Andy Hicks 5-1.

This tourney means something to the big players, so they will be trying, last weeks one, meh! Not so much, better to take a dive and have a few days rest.

Alan McManus was 0-5 back against Michael Wild, now he cut the lead to 4-5. Would be a great comeback.
