  • 2017 World Championship

The last tournament before the World Championship is fought, so our focus can shift to the highlight of every year. I know it's still time but I just thought it would be nice to have a thread, where we can already talk about the upcoming event and where you can look up for informations.

Here is also the breakdown of ranking points and prize money:
    Winner: £375,000
    Runner-up: £160,000
    Semifinal: £75,000
    Quarterfinal: £37,500
    Last 16: £25,000
    Last 32: £16,000 (£0 for seeded losers)

We obviously don't know the exact draw yet, but after todays China Open final we know the 16 seeded players who take the traditional positions of their world ranking.

    Here it is:
    Mark Selby (1) - Fergal O'Brien 10-2
Ryan Day (16) - Xiao Guodong
Neil Robertson (9) - Noppon Saengkham
Marco Fu (8) - Luca Brecel

Shaun Murphy (5) - Yan Bingtao
    Ronnie O’Sullivan (12) - Gary Wilson

Liang Wenbo (13) - Stuart Carrington
Ding Junhui (4) - Zhou Yuelong

Stuart Bingham (3) - Peter Ebdon
Kyren Wilson (14) - David Grace

Mark Allen (11) - Jimmy Robertson
John Higgins (6) - Martin Gould

Barry Hawkins (7) - Tom Ford
Ali Carter (10) - Graeme Dott

    Anthony McGill (15) - Stephen Maguire 2-10
Judd Trump (2) - Rory McLeod

I think the top half is really, really tough. You can say this already without knowing the qualifiers who will complete it.

I've also already added a poll, where you can vote for who you think will win the 2017 World Championship. We can make another thread for this as well though.

I hope it's Trump but think it will be Selby, he's just so strong mentally.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I go for Selby as well, but I´m hoping for Ding or Trump. Potentially there could also be a lot of really strong qualifiers this year. Williams has a tough opener, but if he qualifies, he could do a lot of damage. Maguire and Michael White´s also been playing fine recently.

Love to see Trump win too. His form looks good, but he will still need a touch of inspiration to make something special happen and go all the way.

Think you just gave him the kiss of death. Whatever little chance he had is now gone.

so far there hasn't been a China open winner who has gone on to win the World Championship in the same year.
So can Selby break the hoodoo

Earlier in the year, I said Higgins while discussing the matter with a bunch of friends but after seeing Trump's season, I think he's about to finally win it all. He looks better than ever.
But he'll need to walk over Selby's corpse to get through....which will be a heck of a hurdle!!

Quite ridiculous odds on O'Sullivan. Joint favorite? He hasn't a hope.

The thing about Ronnie is, that he can win.
