I believe a run of 10 or more is considered good, the record I think is something like 34.

13 is over 20 in my book of maths, I'm probably the only person on here who dreams of making a 182 break

Just watching some of the 9-ball pool and it appears that the racking guide is left on the table for the break shot and then removed before the next shot is played, not seen that before.

ah ha, I see it now (the stream quality is not brilliant), the guide is a flimsy thin plastic that the balls are racked into, so of course it cant be removed with the balls in place, I assume to try to get as-tight-a-pack as possible

UK8-ball never 9-ball, but not played for a while though
does it not interfere with the roll of a slow ball?

It's a bit awkward if a ball ends up on it after the break, but I've never used one in anything competitive enough for it to matter, I pot one off the break almost every time using that.
