It's arguable that dings foul gave no advantage, gifted his opponent 7 points and left a similar situation in the game with the pink taking the position the black was in over the pocket. keoghan had a chance decided to take it on over opting to pursue a tactical position, missed and lost the frame from that error. The only question now with Ding admitting it was deliberate is was that ungentlemanly? In my view to a lesser opponent yes, against Ronnie? no ROS would probably have smiled and appreciated but against Selby?? If the referee had pulled him on it there would have been no advantage either as it would require further warnings to receive any penalty.

I don't think Ding gained an advantage here, but still I think making a deliberate foul isn't the correct etiquette. But I wouldn't call it scandalous.

Then we agree Jim. I see this as a slip in the level of sportsmanship in the game, I don't blame Ding in a way for doing what he did, but I would have been more guarded on what I said, along the lines " the red/pink ball plant looked close but I wasn't sure it would pot the black" ... Not a lie, quite plausible, but also would protect his opponent from feeling slightly disrespected.

Like Willo said on Twitter, how many players could get away wearing this stuff?
Mark Williams has a short memory. ....I saw him playing in slippers at the UK in Preston many years ago, similar story if I recall due to an ankle problem.

Imagine he'd done it against Murphy. He'd have called over the tournament director.

Liang Wenbo - Yan Bingtao and Stuart Bingham - Hossein Vafaei are surely two third-round-matches to look forward to tomorrow.

James Wattana, who hadn't won a match this season before this tournament, upsets Ali Carter 4-3 to reach the third round. There the 47-year old will meet the just 17-year old Yuan Sijun now in a duel of generations.

There are players of 10 nations into the third round. Don't know if that's a record, but it shows quite a variety.

Good to see some youngsters there as well. Hopefully this could be the breakthrough tournament for one of them.

He'd have thrown his toys out the pram and soiled his nappy the fat faced puff.
