I think Ronnie will have to step it a gear or two at least today, Murphy has been playing this well all week and neither has really faced a top players yet.
The CoC was weird as till the final Ronnie had playing as well as during the English open imo and he just didn't get out of second gear that day until too late and he still almost caught up to 9 all.
I think he will be up for this today, as ever might depend on how the first mini session goes but even if it goes 3-1 Murphy, Ronnie never seems to give in easily these days it's just he still feels he lets us and himself down when not in his A game.
Anyway a nice match to round the week off, I would like to see Ronnie Jnr here today as not seen him at any of Ronnie's recent finals.
Pretty pleased with yesterday's games, I enjoyed the Maguire v ROS match even though I was disappointed to see Mags on the losing side. But to bring positive to this picture, it's great to see the Scot in a semi-final of a big tourney again. He played really well, din't let his usual thunderous temper get under his skin (only sparingly) and he had a great result. Very encouraging to me. Of course, the first mini-session against ronnie just killed him but his come back to get to 5-3 was really brilliant. This was the good ol' Mags we used to see when he was in the top3.
I think if he had played anyone but Ronnie, he would have won the game but well.....when the guy is in the other goes by the name of O'Sullivan and is able to do what he did in his century in the 7h frame......what can you do? Probably one of the best centuries I have seen him knock in....just surreal, especially the fina red to the colours. Out of this world!
The other semi quickly got lopsided as well with Murphy in slaughter mode....Was potting everything in sight. Mighty impressive! too bad for Day as he played great all week.
Speaking about the Welsh boy, does anyone what cue is he using now? Got another Ton Praram?
Ton Praram III Series 1 | 58" 18.4oz 9.4mm | ash shaft + 4 splices of Brazilian Rosewood | Grand Cue medium tips
I have expressed a general point after reading your comment about the low standard of play. You are ignorant because you have no idea of what is happening in a game like this as you cannot play and never payed snooker under pressure.
So, you thought it was awful too - i think that's what you're saying.
Shortly after they played in the final of the Champion of Champions we also see Murphy - O'Sullivan in the final of a ranking event and not only this, but in the final of this season's second most important tournament.
Will Murphy win again? Judging by the play of this week he has to be made the favorite. He was clearly the best player so far and won most of his matches easily. But for most of his career Murphy always had troubles against O'Sullivan and I'm not sure if one win against him is enough to overcome some possible mental weaknesses when he is on the other side again. Important for Murphy will be a good start to get a good feeling again soon. Once Ronnie is ahead it's always difficult against him cause this fits his mind well and mostly he will get enough chances to use them to stay ahead.
A key factor in winning this match will be the long potting in my opinion, especially for Murphy, who needs them for his game. When he can get into the breaks with them he should have a good chance to win if he can keep this weeks form. But for both of them the long potting isn't always their most reliable aspect.
I think Murphy is due for another big ranking title so I pick him to win 10-8.
I'd love Ron to equal two more records today, but have a sinking feeling he's going to struggle agvain and Murphy will get the win. In other circumtances that would be fine, but nit against Ron.
And despite the rubbish about "I never had a problem with Shaun" he was very clear at Sheffield DocFest that he ha no time for the man.
Definitely not the best week for ROS. But I feel he can step it up. Murphy is in an ideal place to win this but he’s not strong enough mentally imo. He’s been the better player this week but we saw in their last final how he can suffer mentally. Hope both players bring their A game.
