Thanks. I definitely plan to get the crucible sooner than later. A couple of my Polish friends are starting to get into snooker and the three of us might go together next time. I guess I was the one to test the waters.

    • Finally went to see live snooker for first time ever today. And what a treat. 2 centuries from Ronnie in the first 2 frames. Got straight to front row although I opted to go back 1 just to be slightly higher up . Was a great time except for the people constantly talking or saying shot..... and then the lady passing out and groaning for 10 min or so. Least she was ok in the end I think after ambulance came to get her.

On the whole think I'd go back. But i learnt how the table conditions are so far from club tables it's a different game. There we're so many shots little dinky shots that were played that are impossible on the majority of tables I've played on.

Yeah the conditions are not what you'd find in the average club, but the speed of the cloths brings a new tricky element that needs even superior levels of skill. Just an ounce of extra weight makes the cue ball roll so much further, the pockets are also notoriously less forgiving

        • This joyce day match is unwatchable - I've had to turn it off.

It amazes me how bad the majority of pro snooker players are. They do this all day long ffs. Numpties indeed.

If they continue like this they'll have no time to change to the one table format, both players are better than this but both not on it. At least they are both playing at a similiar level

Its not the most aesthetically pleasing game to watch, but could go the distance.

That said Mark Joyce has hit 3 x 50+ scores and 1 century to win his 4 frames...thats hardly amateur (unless you know some very good amateurs :-)

Slight thread drift, but onto one of your favourite topics...what did you make of the Mosconi Cup this year?

He's a Brexit supporting numpty, he has little positive to say apart from complain so I wouldn't get upset by his posts. Once a negative mind, always a negative mind without counselling, unfortunately these kinds can affect the rest of us like with their Brexit votes.

                    • In the end despite all the early upsets we have two top players and two players from the next tier in the semifinal, which happens quite a lot after all. It's not a huge surprise to have Day or Maguire here, but honestly I don't think they will get into the final.

Shaun Murphy has been very convincing so far, while Ryan Day won his three last matches all in the decider. This shows at least that his mentality is pretty good, something that certainly couldn't always be said about the Welshman. But Murphy lost only eleven frames in his five matches so far, with five of them coming in his narrow win over Liam Highfield. Shaun tends to having these kind of runs from time to time. Often it depends on his long pots going in and when he is playing with confidence then he can be tough to be stopped. And he plays like this today I just see no light for Day. Of course the other side is that Murphy's play can fall apart from one day to the other, then Ryan could take advantage. Still I say Murphy will win 6-2.

For a while Maguire - O'Sullivan had nearly classic status. Cause while the Scotsman lost most of their meetings (the head-to-head is 9:3 for Ronnie in ranking events), Maguire was one of the people never to be to intimiated by Ronnie and gave him a close match most of the times. Actually the two only heavy defeats Maguire were handed happened at the UK Championship, but he also beat O'Sullivan at this event in the UK Championship in 2004, when he went on to win his only big title. Many thought back then - including myself and also Ronnie O'Sullivan - it would just be the first of many titles. And I had the hope for a long time that Maguire would learn to play with less temper and more intelligence and finally have the success his talent would have enabled him to.
Right now the gap between Maguire and O'Sullivan seems bigger than ever though. Since 2013 Maguire has began to fall apart in my eyes and they only met once since this year. In 2014 at the Masters O'Sullivan won comfortably 6-2. Ronnie didn't play flawless so far, but neither did Maguire, whose game was always mistake-prone and this is the one thing you can't allow against O'Sullivan - give him to many opportunities. 6-3 to O'Sullivan.

Ok, so you thought the match was a classic, with great play all night?

Wasn't great, was it? With brexit and no Englishmen, i was rooting for the Americans, but they were very poor. I thought they had a chance, but Skyler and oscar were awful and SVB was SVB at the mosconi. Hatch was entertaining lol.

First time I've seen filler and he's a monster in the making. Ralph was steady and Nick didn't crack, a least not as much as i thought he would. Could only be one outcome, sadly.

Good to see a tight table for once.

I take it there were meltdowns aplenty on azb? I couldn't even be bothered to troll the woeful JAM this time lol.

It was very disappointing, I thought it would be much closer this year, but as you say the Americans were awful. No idea why, maybe the pressure got to them.

I thought for the Europeans Nick looked the weakest, but as you say managed to grind out some results and Joshua Filler looks very exciting, he was hitting the ball beautifully at times.

There were loads of meltdowns on AZB, haha, still going on in-fact :-)

The commentators said the corner pockets were 4.25 inches this year and it definitely felt like there were more unexpected misses, although it didn't phase the Europeans too much.

Interestingly Matchroom have announced the 'Reyes Cup', Europe vs Asia to be played in China next May/June!

I have expressed a general point after reading your comment about the low standard of play. You are ignorant because you have no idea of what is happening in a game like this as you cannot play and never payed snooker under pressure.

It almost feels as if we were back in 2008, doesn't it? O'Sullivan, Murphy and Maguire were three of the four dominant players at the time, and Day was a top8 player as well in that period. Murphy and Day actually played each other in a ranking final in Malta ten years ago, with Murphy winning.

Obviously things are a little different these days, and this particular semi-final line-up doesn't give me any great hope that we will see exciting snooker this weekend. You never know with snooker though, I've been wrong many many times.

I think Murphy has probably played the best snooker of these four so far. He is a better player than Day, so I would expect him to win today, but Day has fought very well all week and played some good stuff under pressure, so it could be a close match. I think Maguire and O'Sullivan are pretty well matched, but O'Sullivan is the stronger player mentally and possibly has a psychological edge over Maguire, so I will be pleasantly surprised if Maguire plays well and beats him today.
