    • A fine postmatch interview from Neil Robertson. He was very honest about not deserving this win. It was actually quite funny when he left the table he held his hands down and looked quite uncomfortable with the situation. Anyway congratulations to Neil Robertson and let´s hope we´ll see more from Cao Yupeng.

        • What a fantastic final and congrats NR you champ.

8-4 down and then to reel of 5 frames for the win in a major final is a massive achievement and now we can just wait for our Cricketers to bring home the Ashes today as well.
If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???

            • Well, that was a very enjoyable night of snooker. Got a bit scrappy towards the end, but I can't imagine anything more tense and dramatic than what we saw tonight.

Well played to Neil Robertson, it was about time he won something again. I think his assessment of the match was very fair, he was outplayed for most of it, but his opponent somehow failed to get over the line. Robertson played the best snooker in the previous rounds though, so it 's a good sign for him ahead of the second half of the season.

Heartbreaking defeat for Cao Yupeng, but I'm sure he would have taken this result before the week started. Yesterday I said that he took great advantage of the table being generous on a couple of shots, but today it proved to be just a little bit too tight for him on that pink and black. Couldn't really have got any closer.

Snooker can be funny sometimes... The UK Championship was bit of a disappointment with all the top players going out, while this relatively minor tournament ended up being one of the most exciting ones we've had so far this season. The atmosphere was great throughout, and the audience was rewarded with great snooker. Just a shame the matches were so short, but unfortunately that complaint applies to most tournaments these days...

That's it for 2017 then, looking forward to the Masters next year.

              • A fantastic finale and what an advert for snooker. I only hope Cao gets over this quickly but well played Robertson.

                • Absolutely ballsy decider by Robbo, enjoyed this one and deserved as he was playing good throughout the tourney.

                  • Heartbreaking stuff from Cao, really deserved to win that. Atleast he can still take a lot of positives away from the result including the nice financial reward

                    • Cao should learn from this defeat and if he does he has a great future. He reminded me very much of Steve Davis in his prime, long red, 70+ break and frame over.

                      • That defeat must hurt so much. 8-4 in front, then one black ball away from winning. I really feel for Cao Yupeng. He played very well for most of the match and certainly didn't deserve to lose in such a cruel manner. This will be tough to swallow I'm afraid and I hope he will be able to do it quickly.
You could see the nerves coming to him with the big lead and maybe his lack of experience in finals cost him a bit in the end. Hopefully he can draw some positives from this and strengthen further.

Despite I dislike him it's in some way good to see Robertson win a title again.

                        • I echo those sentiments Jim.

Feel for Cao. Hoping he can get over this one quickly...I have become a fan of his style...he's great to watch.

And despite my dislike (which would be too big of a negative description anyway) for Robbo, I thought he was very gracious towars Cao afterwards. That was really good to see. He's human after all

Great Final it was! I find it creeps back into my thoughts at times today...that says a lot. Maybe I'll watch the highlights later on Eurosport...

i found andy goldstein offensive and his choice of words/questions wholly inappropriate. The worst part was dragging up Robertson's family issues. Fair enough if he brings it up himself but to question him about it and put words in his mouth, totally out of order.

I personally wouldn't bring it up in an interview.however it was Robertson himself who put the info out I to the public domain originally.

                              • Snooker proved last night that it is an unforgiving and hard task master. It's like the game is an animal that preys on fear, if it gets the slightest scent in the air that a player is nervous and has a chink in their armour it will seek it out!

Of course this isn't true, the truth is our own fears can haunt us. CAO admitted in his interview after his semi final win, that he had altered his technique slightly in an attempt to make it stand up better when under pressure because he struggles in pressure situations (don't we all!!) I'm sure this has helped him, but the last hurdle is to put fear to bed and get over the line, this will only happen when he truly "believes in himself"once he acheives that he will never again feel the fear quite the same way he did last night.

I for one wish him all the very best in that hunt.
