Anyway, I was just thinking about some of the memorable matches between Williams and Dott in the past, and I couldn't really think of any special ones. When you take out stuff such as the Championship League, Pot Black, and some minor PTC events, they have only played each other eight times in proper snooker, and not a single one of those was at the business end of any reasonably big tournament! I find that to be an amazing statistic, especially when you consider that tournaments used to be played under the tiered format, so it was much more likely for top players to meet one another at major venues. Dott turned pro 24 years ago, which means these two meet roughly once every three years on average, and even then it's always in the early rounds of events. Until today of course...
I agree that Dott should have won more away from the Crucible. It's very underwhelming and that was part of my argument.

As for today I really think Williams has to be the clear favorite. He has something like a renaissance year and I think he'll lift his second trophy of the season tonight.

Nice 64 by Dott to shorten Williams' lead to 1-2.

It's a shame that Eurosport Germany doesn't show the final of the biggest tournament in it's own country, especially when it is partially sponsored by Eurosport and I have to watch it on the Eurosport Player.

Yep, we're in for a treat if that first quarter is anything to go by.

Have to say the grain on William's cue should be the poster-child for what an ultimate SHOULD look like, really even, all in line and spaced nicely. Then again it seems all the best stuff is reserved for pro's who get them for nothing and barely have to wait, anyone else, yes that'll be a grand and you might get it before you hit old age.

I'm a little bit afraid Williams will run away with this one.

I'm pleased to see Mark playing so well, but there's not much pressure coming from Dott is there. Shame, looks like an early night.

                      7-1.
                      This is over.

Mark Williams will be back to #7 after the final and #2 in this season's list alone.

That was a great performance from Williams in the afternoon. It was the kind of snooker people always say Williams is famous for, but we haven't actually seen it much from him in recent years. Not too many high breaks, but long balls flying in from everywhere and lots of crucial little contributions at the right times. Long potting has been the highlight though, it's tough not to win if you are taking everything on and potting 90% of them...

Agree. That was a vintage performance of Williams. Turning the time back 15 years.

Btw last night Williams cued out of a snooker onehanded on three occasions last night in the last frame against Trump. I guess he felt that his was in better balance, but it looked strange, have anyone seen that before?

he has done this for a few years now, not sure why but seems to (eventually) work for him.
I recall one of the BBC commentators (SD?) saying something along the lines of "not for normal players to copy"
