That was good entertainment all the way. I never look forward to the nightmare pairing, but it's good that we'll get it out of the way as early as the 2nd round.

    Oh, calm down, Peter!

Yes it's been a good match, but get a grip!

The odds of them winning those eight matches to meet in the final are......

    0.70*0.70*0.65*0.65*0.60*0.60*0.55*0.55 = 0.023 = 2.3% chance is once every 44 years

That seems about right. Even if Selby and O'Sullivan were both 80% to win it was 0.20*0.20 = 0.040 =4% chance that they both lose. Much much better chance than lightning striking you or winning the lottery.
Very insightful math.I guess it is because snooker is such a sport where its much easier to lose by everyone.Even if one is superior player, if its not his day and the opponent is inspired, the opponent can easily win.
In tennis its obviously not like that.Ferrer never manages to defeat Federer for example and Nadal is unbeatable on the clay and gets into finals every time

Sad to see Maguire lose and Ronnie win, but it was not surprising in the least. It was a typical Maguire-match.

    Well, yes

I think I meant to the extent where it's already, and almost, a foregone conclusion he's going to win.

Perhaps he should go running with Ronnie?

Just thought is he known as " On Fire" Maguire because he usually crashes and burns?
I think Mr Crumble suits him better

Good win for O'Sullivan in the end, in a similar style to the two semi-finals he played against Maguire earlier in the season. You could see it in his face that he was really determined at the start of the session, and even though he was still giving quite a few chances away, it was more than good enough to dominate the session. This could have been the one match where O'Sullivan was vulnerable in this tournament and he ends up winning his other matches comfortably, or it could have shown a few of the players in his section that he is beatable and given them confidence. Time will tell...

As for Maguire, another display of his enormous potential, he played some good safety and got a bunch of great long pots, but he just couldn't produce the breaks under pressure. A shame I suppose, but not surprising in the least.
