When the player is in the balls all the ref has to do is step back from the table adjacent to the black spot and keep still until the black has been potted. Then it's only two steps to the pocket and two steps back to the black spot and it can be done before the player has got down for the next red or even before the cue ball has stopped moving.
The ref should be able to read the break as it happens and when position dictates up for pink or blue he/she should see that and stand accordingly.
It seems a ref is judged good or bad only on how fast they can walk behind the player and on repositioning balls after a foul and miss and not whether they keep up with the player at the table. Let's face it if you've potted a colour and are down for the next red you don't need the ref walking past you in order to stand behind you again, movement in your eyeline is a killer in this game, and how refs are expected to see very fine kisses on balls on or not on when so far away is beyond me.
I saw a ref the other week standing behind a player, pink and black left, when he had cue ball on the baulk cushion attempting a very fine snick on the pink which was just sticking out from behind the black on its spot, she must have been fifteen feet away and looking over the players head.
Maybe the players should have a little form to fill in after each match and tick boxes about the refs performance, even if that happened the 'did the ref keep you waiting' box wouldn't be on it I fear.Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare

2019 Welsh Open
vmax - he possibly said that as well but he definitely said don't go in front of me as I go round the table. he said it to the Belgium ref (name escapes me for the mo) at the table caught on mic and he said it again as they walked out at the end and also in interviews.
I also think that the constant being behind is not correct sometimes, away from the table out of line of sight but this constant walking around and shadowing the player - I find that more disturbing than some one standing still away from the table. Not saying always but a common sense approach as per shot on requires, a mix best suited to what is happening on the tableLast edited by DeanH; 13 February 2019, 10:46 AM.Up the TSF! :snooker:

The ref got in his way several times yesterday as Ronnie was up and moving to the next shot quickly, he had to come from behind him all the time, caught his cue one time, and no one likes being followed Dean, it's human nature that.
I have a hard time telling certain people in our league reffing my matches (I'm a very fast player) not to move when I'm down on the shot, "I'm only getting out of your way way" is the cry I hear and even explaining that I don't see them until they move falls on deaf ears and they do it again next shot
I was escorted out of the local Police Club by two coppers once when this happened over again and I demanded another ref and a big argument kicked off, they told me that they knew my name and had my number and they'd be watching out for me, "make sure there's more than one of you then" I said and nothing ever happened.Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare

So, who's the best Bond then?
I don't particularly like any of them, but I guess I would have to go for Connery. Moore is a good laugh as well, but it's impossible to regard of any his Bond films as anything other than silly comedies. What do you think?
Edit: Oh, wrong forum. Sorry.

P.S. Comical thrillers maybe, but not always silly. "The Spy who loved me" still holds up to me as the second best Bond film ever, behind "From Russia with Love" only.Last edited by JimMalone; 13 February 2019, 06:40 PM.
