I thought about this as well. Incredible well paced escapes especially.
Loved the decider, well spent 79 minutes.

You saw that Wilson misses the consistency though. Plenty of mistakes from both players. And as somebody else said I wouldn't put Brecel among the top 16 players. He's mainly there because of his win at the 2017 China Championship and will likely drop out once those points are removed.

I fell asleep twice. It was like a lot of the local league frames I'm unfortunate enough to referee when I'm tired and need to go home for early shift the next day. How the ref kept his concentration I'll never know.
As for the match Wilson must be a billiards payer, some great escapes and snooker laid. That dead weight roll up to the red past the middle must be up there for shot of the tournament.

Very short bloke is Luca, plays with a standard length cue but maybe could do with something tailor made to suit his physique, but I guess that a long bridge is what he prefers as he's always had one.

To me to. As you said I rarely saw Higgins miss one and he tries it more often than most other players.

Selby is struggling. Did not expect Zhao to get the better of Selby in the safety battle. The youngster has some bottle!

    You sure about Selby ?
Just found this "There has only been one 10-0 win before at the Sheffield venue, when John Parrott hammered Eddie Charlton in 1992"

At least Luo Honghao as a record even if he doesn't want it. I Think the Selby Whitewash your thinking about is the 9-0 thrashing by Mark Williams in the last 64 of the 1999 UK Championship.

Luo Honghao becomes the first snooker player to play at The Crucible Theatre without winning a single frame and scores only 89 points in the whole match with a highest break of only 25. Three unwanted records for Luo. It must be an awful feeling getting whitewashed on the biggest snooker stage of them all.

It's hard to know why we cheer for some of the players and teams that we cheer for. I've been a Brecel fan ever since I saw him as a 16 year old, but sometimes he really annoys me and tests my patience. It's a testament to how talented he is, that he almost won that match yesterday despite making dozens of poor decisions and playing dozens of bad to terrible shots.

I don't know what the problem/answer is. I thought he had a coach that was supposed to teach him better tactics. Maybe this is who he is and will always be. A fringe top 16 player who occasionally makes a deep run in a tournament. Many players would love to be in that position, but I can't help but think that he's underachieving. Maybe he'll be like Barry Hawkins who took his lumps at the WC before finally figuring it out in his 30s.

Gary Wilson really impressed me how he finished off the final frame after this long, long safety battle. So determined, so accurate and flawless! To me he appears to be a wonderful bloke and I hope he gets very far in this tournament. Wouldn't it be the story of the year if he becomes world champion?

I remember hearing Ronnie suggested shortening his bridge but he still plays with possibly the longest bridge on the tour. Beyond that I think his dedication to practice is not very consistent. I suspect when he gets results he then gets complacent which translates into the dip in form that we all see.
