I hope you are right! Why not 18-17?

On another thread I mentioned the 3 best players of the season are in the bottom half of the draw. Tough luck they cant make the final agains each other as they should!

Top draw ROS deserves it on results (UK win) and Allen and Day (young prospects and played well this season). Also Williams would deserve it as hes revived in a way this season (and being a fan of him )

The ones not deserving it are Higgins, Hendry and Ding! They played below par this season, to put it mildly.

    Carter outsider!

Excellent point paul! And and who let Ronnie come back from 5-2 down in a tournament this season?? Oh yes its that 'consistent' Murphy!

Murphy is a real fighter - showing a lot of character and confidence in long matches recently.
So who beats him could be the new champ.
I saw that going differently in my mind

History tells us that whoever beats Murphy will lose in the final.

          2002 - Hendry
          2003 - Doherty
          2006 - Ebdon
          2007 - Selby

Therefore the winner has to come from the top half unless Murphy wins it.

            Did he?

he lost to Maguire 3 times this season.

            Ni trophy semi 6-5
            Uk semi 9-5
            China Open 10-9

I like Murphies style of play but dont exaggerate please. he has not won a ranking tournament this season.

I was talking about Murphy being a fighter. Did not show it in the previous tournaments where he all lost in the end .

Though I would like to see another 2005 final

Impressive stats Alex. But an exception this year could confirm this rule.

What about Ding ? Since the debacle at the Masters against O'Sullivan last year
he has shown a lot of progress on all kind of levels - certainly his attitude has improved. I found him quite childish at that time. Now he seems more composed and a better match player. And as already mentioned here some time ago his shot selection has improved. Adding the fact he is mega talented
one could suppose 'his time' is perhaps there.

Ding is certainly recovering his game and temprament bit by bit. But he is still far from the cool, confident and deadly player he was before his destruction by Ronnie.
As he is still playing at levels below what we know he is capable of i dont think he can win many matches or any tournament playing on his b game or less in the same way that the likes of Ronnie can.

Fu will teach Ding a lesson in the first round.
