No idea ? Perhaps, do you ? Throwing such things in the press always makes me suspicious. Just tell me why he wants his inner life or feelings in the press??
Well, well ... that's not better than other things that were written on this board and made me mad
I just hope Graeme will be OK soon and that it does not become a chonic state. I wish it to no one. And if he does not feel fit to play and face the pressure he should not do it. And get the proper support and understanding from his relatives, friends, the authorities and his fans ... or simply the snooker fans.

No need getting over-sentimental - just read the rest of the thread you will fell better
Here is a guy with a genuine reason to feel depressed
What a sad little quote. Depression doesn't come knocking just out of what others may conceive as 'genuine reasons'.
As for the 'attention seeking' comment - it has been pretty evident that Dott hasn't been doing all too swell as of lately, this is an explanation to his fans. It takes some guts to go public with something like this, but only Dott knows if it was the right thing to do.
Good luck, Graeme. I may not be a fan of his snooker, but I still wouldn't want anyone to give up because of depressions.
Of course, no one wants someone else to fall into depression. Quite obvious.
But there are 'ifs' and 'could' so no reason to jump to conclusion about Graeme.
I still think press releases of that kind should have more sense if he had decided what to do. But sure he is free to act as he feels.

Firstly is there any reason for the insult?
Secondly I am making a valid point referring to O'Sullivans recent antics that were blamed on depression by a few of his fans. How can what Graeme is going through compare to the childish antics of O'Sullivan and be blamed on the same thing.
You are right, depression doesn't come knocking, but it doesn't stop Ronnie's fans playing that trump card every time he steps out of line.

'Every time' - as you write - is a little exaggerated but there is some truth in what you say here. His stupid behavour in china for example can never be legitimated by any argument about his mental condition. It was unmannered and rude, being depressed or not. On the other hand lets wait and see how/what Dott will do in the next weeks before making premature conclusions or dramatising yet about his condition.
Right after his China Open defeat the chinese press reported that Graeme Dott had attended his press conference red eyed and quitted the venue crying. This was not reported by he UK press but I don't see why the chinese press would have "invented" that. So I consider this as true. And it is very uncharacteristic of Graeme Dott who in the past has shown more than enough of his courage and gritt.
Also on many occasions this season he appeared to me as not really trying.
All these are indications that indeed he his going through a difficult period in life. Depression is usually the result of an accumulation of factors that may or may not be perceived by others as "valid", and there is usually little logic or rationality in the behaviour of the person batlling it. All we can hope for Graeme Dott is that he gets the help and support he needs so that this state doesn't become a chronic problem.
I see totally different motives to getting this in the press than attention seeking: on one hand as already mentioned it is good expectations management towards his fans, on the other hand it's a way to lower the pressure on himself in case he finally decides to compete. Both can only be positive.
and OT: I can't remember a single post by a "Ronnie fan" excusing the press conference incident on his depression. On the other hand I remember many posts by those same fans expressing their disaprovement and disappointment at his behaviour. But of course "Ronnie fans" are guilty by design

I agree... i hope he feels well enough and is comfortable enough to play at the crucible. depression is an terrible illness and can strike at any time, fingers crossed for graeme that he can pull through this quickly.

well, well ...Amazing to see how some here feel the need to annalyse someone else's problems with long theoretical thinking, even if they don't know the one they are annalysing personally.

Well Wim, for the first time I'm going to have to take sides against you. .
At least Monique has put some thought and reasoning into her post, unlike your throwaway "Dott is attention seeking" line. I really think thats the last thing Dott would want in this siuation TBH. For all we know maybe he didnt want his manager to go public atall with this. We just dont really know do we.

Great opening Danny, ..First time for everything
She did but all those negative threatening ideas...nothing happened yet and I don't want her to become depressed herself by continuously writing all this...
Indeed, this throwaway 'Dott is attention seeking' is of course not relevant but was to me an interesting spontaneous starting point of view in this discussion and should lead (and did) to some controversional but interesting discussions.
Anyway, you just wrote it correctly "We just don't really know do we"
In fact this is the message I wanted to write - next time in delicate matters I' ll ask you to validate my message first

Don't worry Wim, as long as my jukebox is working I'm not in danger
Unless it starts feeding me with a mix of Joy Division, JJ Cale and Leonard Cohen of course!
Ups..that's sad news . This "depression" -thingy , hopefully it wont become a "trend" among snooker players .
I hope Graeme will come to better feelings and will come to Crucible after all, no matter what the result of the match will be i think its wiser to come and give it a go than not showing up at all. IF he goes through , good for him , if not ..at least he gave it a try, hes an ambitious player , he'll manage to concentrate and make a decent match.
