I think Graham Dott should be given a deadline of say Wednesday to give a definite yes or no. If it's a No, all the players who lost in the final qualifying round can go into a hat and the name that comes out gets his place.

Either that or the more complicated method outlined below.

If Dott decides not to play the no.17 ranked player automatically qualifies. This is Joe Swail. He would then play Joe Perry instead, and Judd Trump will play Stephen Lee, as Judd Trump is who Joe Swail beat in the final qualifying round.
    Cheers

Surely your more complicated method merely gives Judd Trump, instead of Joe Perry, a bye (albeit a retrospective one)?

And since Judd Trump has already lost a match this year whereas Perry hasn't, I can't see the logic in it!

        I admit, it's confusing.

A bye for Joe Perry would seem the more sensible option. I'm just thinking of ways of filling the space so the fans don't miss out on a match.

The fans won't miss out entirely; they just won't lower the dividing wall.

They cannot suddenly 'move the goalposts' like that. For As long as ive been following snooker, its always been the case that when a player is unable to attend his opponent gets a bye. It would be very unfair on JP if this suddenly changed.

If there is ever going to be a change it should be announced before the start of a new season. :snooker:
