* If plenty of money, pay a visit to Shopping mall Meadow hall. You can go with the supertram (2 quid dayticket) and when nice weather walk back along the banks of the river don (if raining, you have to swim).
* For real ale and a pleasant pub, visit The Fat Cat. in walking distance from the centre. For cheap drinks, there are 2 weatherspoons near the Crucible.
* When nice weather and like a walk, visit the tourist centre for walk around sheffield. Free map, nice scenery. Just take the bus to potters bar (20 minutes) and start your walk from there. I underestimated the climbing and had to abandon the track halfway (otherwise missing the afternoon session).
* For eating out, and in a hurry you can join the italian cafe just around the corner. You could meet some snooker related figures there (Parrott ate there with his family and Davis went in there as well)
* At the backstage door most players and refs enter. So if you like taking pics. wait there. The Cuezone is also interesting. Its the big tent in front of The venue. First time I was a bit early and went inside. The Beeb was shooting some footage with Steve and John. I was asked to stand next to them because of my colourful polo. got into conversation with them afterwards and with the beeb producer. My first minutes in Sheffield and had to pinch myself afterwards. Nice experience. Most of the time they shoot the footage before the afternoon session.
Hope you will enjoy your time!

actually, I'm very interested in public transport in Sheffield and what's the best way to get from/to my place of staying (Harley's, Glossop Road, close to Sheff. University) and Crucible. Evening sessions sometimes end very late, and if it's also raining (as mentioned before), won't be very comfortable get there by walking.

No thanks. I am staying in walking distance from the Walhalla!
unless you have a few too many, there is a spare bed in my hotel room for unforeseen events and circumstances!
